  • After three rounds, Phil Mickelson leads the field at the 2019 Desert Classic.
  • Jason Sobel thinks there's value in Mickelson's matchup prop against Adam Hadwin, who trails Phil by two strokes.

Only at the Desert Classic can a player shoot 8-under through 54 holes and still have the day off on Sunday.

With the final round upon us and low scores expected, let’s focus on the last three pairings for today’s matchup bets.

Season record: 16-20-3 (-4.61 units)

Sungjae Im (+165) over Jon Rahm

As I tweeted yesterday, last year’s Web.com POY is showing that he’ll be a force on the PGA Tour for a while. I like him to go low today in a plus-money matchup against another young stud.

Patrick Cantlay (-1.5, -135) over Michael Thompson

It’s been a nice three-round stretch for Thompson, but he might be outclassed against one of the game’s better ball-strikers in Cantlay. I expect the latter to make a run at the title, which could mean a 65 or 66 on Sunday.

Phil Mickelson (+110) over Adam Hadwin

Wait a minute: One of the best closers of the past quarter-century is going for a wire-to-wire win … and he’s the underdog in this matchup? I love Hadwin’s game and he’s a true desert bandit, but don’t expect Phil to fade away.
