We were all set for a dandy of baseball game on Sunday night, with Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer scheduled to face off in the World Series. PointsBet's odds for Astros-Nats Game 5 had Houston as a -150 favorite, with Washington listed at +130 and the over/under at 6.5.
But everything changed around 4:30 p.m. ET, when the Nationals announced Scherzer would be scratched, with Joe Ross taking his place on the mound.
At the time of writing, PointsBet's updated odds for Game 5 are as follows:
- Astros moneyline: -235
- Nationals moneyline: +185
- Over/under: 8
The Nationals — who were up 2-0 in the series entering the weekend, but now find themselves locked up at two games each — are reportedly hoping to get five innings and/or 75-80 pitches out of Ross tonight. Sean Doolittle and Daniel Hudson are likely to be in the mix out of the bullpen, with Anibal Sanchez available in relief, as well.
