Kansas sports betting went live Thursday at 12 p.m. CT after several online sportsbooks and casinos started taking bets.

Just in time for NFL and college football, Kansans can place a bet online through FanDuelDraftKings, BetMGMCaesarsBarstool and PointsBet.

In-person betting is available at the Hollywood Casino Barstool Sportsbook in Kansas City and the Kansas Star Casino FanDuel Sportsbook in Mulvane.

Their books open just 16 weeks after Gov. Laura Kelly approved a bill that made Kansas the 35th state to legalize sports betting. It allows up to 12 online sportsbooks and the state's four casinos to take bets in person.

It's expected to generate roughly $10 million a year for the state, which waged a political battle earlier this year with Missouri to legalize sports betting first.

More Options Next Week

The Kansas Lottery calls the activity that started Thursday a "soft launch".

Full launch is scheduled for Sept. 8 when Bally Bet, FOX Bet and Golden Nugget — a DraftKings owned sportsbook — are expected to join the online market.

Until then sportsbooks are only required to take bets on NFL, MLB and college football, though they may offer more sports if they wish.

Boot Hill Casino and Resort in Dodge City (DraftKings) and Kansas Crossing Casino in Pittsburgh (Caesars) will take in-person bets as well, though they haven't announced when they'll start.

Under the bill signed by the Governor, Native American Tribes may update their gaming compacts to offer sports betting as well, though so far none of shown any interest in doing so.
