2019 PGA Championship Mega Guide: Betting Odds, Picks and Insights for 60+ Players

The second major of the golf season has arrived.

The 2019 PGA Championship begins on Thursday (6:45 a.m. ET) live from Bethpage Black on Long Island, New York.

To prepare for the tournament, the Action Network's brightest golf minds got together to provide tournament outlooks for more than 50 golfers, starting with Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

After winning the Masters, Woods is the betting favorite for the PGA Championship, but my numbers put Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy ahead of him for sure. If Justin Thomas was fully healthy, I’d pick him ahead of Tiger, too.

Woods has won the U.S. Open at Bethpage, so there’s really not going to be value on him in any format. I’ve gone the other way and dabbled a little in him not winning another major in 2019 at -300 and -350. Considering McIlroy is -700 for the same best and is at least equally as likely as Tiger to win a major, I think there’s some value in a Tiger fade. — Joshua Perry

Long and strong could very well be the not-so-secret formula at Bethpage, and very few are longer and stronger than DJ.

The course won’t play as difficult as Oakmont did for the U.S. Open three years ago in his lone major championship title so far, but the Northeast venues own some correlating similarities, which could lead to another serious contention for the world’s No. 1-ranked player. — Jason Sobel

Brooks at a major … what more needs to be said? For years, my favorite major bet was him to finish in the top 20 because it was usually plus-money and close to a lock. But those plus-money days are gone since he’s won three of the last eight. The defending PGA champ has too short of odds for me to bet, but I’m definitely not going out of my to bet against him in any fashion. — Joshua Perry

Rory McIlroy 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

If you had to set up a major perfectly for Rory, it would be the PGA Championship. He’s one of the longest guys on tour, which should set him up for as many birdie opportunities as anyone will get in this field.

Further, he’s in excellent form right now, finishing inside the top 25 in each of his eight events this season. He’s first in the world in Strokes Gained: Overall, Off-the-Tee and Tee-to-Green. Of course, that means his number is really high at +1200 to win, but he’s one of the scariest fades given his perfect fit and currently pristine form.

I doubt I’ll be buying these high prices at the top, but I won’t fault anyone for betting Rory this week. — Bryan Mears

Will this week finally be the week when Rickie Fowler sheds his “best player to have never won a major” label?

He has the type of game to compete anywhere, and he has won on big, long golf courses, such as Quail Hollow. He has made a habit of competing on Sundays at Majors, and I don’t think this week will be any different.

The public normally bets heavily on Fowler, and I don't like to be chalky, but I will be looking to take him in some head-to-head matchups this week. — Drew Stoltz

Jon Rahm 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Rahm is a guy I absolutely want to buy this week, especially in DFS, as he’s only $9,500 on DraftKings. I think Rahm will get at least one major in his career, and the PGA Championship is the one best suited to his strengths. He hits the ball a mile — he’s second in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee — and can get incredibly hot with his irons. If he has a weakness, it’s an inconsistent short game, but this is a course on which he can get away with that; awesome drives and second shots will absolutely have him in contention.

Put simply, he’s one of the best all-around players in the world, and this course favors those types, especially the longest ones. His price is too low in DFS, and I’ll be looking to buy him in the betting market as well, especially in head-to-head props. — Bryan Mears

Justin Rose 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Rose is always a popular player in all formats, but some might shy away from him this week due to his lackluster performance at the Masters and some weak performances at Bethpage (he's never finished better than 31st).

With that said, he has played well at two courses that are similar to the Black — Torrey Pines and Doral — and there's no reason why his strong tee-to-green game shouldn't shine at Bethpage. I bet Rose to win outright once his odds drifted to 21-1 at one book. — Joshua Perry

Jason Day 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Day is incredibly intriguing on DraftKings at his salary. He’s a bit underpriced as his $9,000 price tag makes him the 12th-most expensive golfer, but his 68.1 Long-Term Adjusted Round Score is the sixth-best mark in the field.

Day has both the distance and short game to contend at Bethpage. There’s a strong chance he makes my cash-game roster. — Justin Bailey

Francesco Molinari 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

It took a decade of playing major championships for Molinari to get the hang of ‘em, but he’s now firmly amongst the names of those who tend to play their best golf in the big ones.

Starting in 2007, Molinari made 32 major starts, posting just a pair of top-10 results and nothing better than T-9.In his last six major starts, however, he never finished outside the top-25 and has four results of sixth-or-better, including his first major title at last year’s Open Championship.

Expect him to pop up on the leaderboard at times throughout this one, as well. — Jason Sobel

Tommy Fleetwood 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Fleetwood’s odds in these majors are starting to creep up, but that’s very warranted and it’s hard to not continue to find ways to bet him. He’s top 10 in Long-Term Adjusted Round Score and is assuredly one of the best ball-strikers in the world. But he has the distance, too, ranking fourth in the world in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee. No surprise, he’s also fourth in SG: Tee-to-Green.

I’m not sure what more you would want out of a potential contender, and his number at 33/1 is still reasonable. His odds of +290 for a top-10 finish are also intriguing, and I’ll be looking to buy him in both DFS and head-to-head matchup props. He’s one of the more complete golfers in the world, and he seems ready to break through in a big way. — Bryan Mears

Xander Schauffele 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Xander will fit perfectly into balanced builds on DraftKings this week. He should be able to play the par 5s well here since he’s averaging -5.0 adjusted strokes on them over the past 75 weeks.

And it’s hard not to like a guy who's relatively cheap for someone who ranks eighth in total strokes gained over his past 50 rounds.

He also tends to show up at big events with five top-25s and four top-10s in his eight appearances in majors. –Justin Bailey

Bryson DeChambeau 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

At the end of 2018, when DeChambeau won three PGA events, he was ball-striking with the best in the world. So far in 2019, that just hasn’t been there, evidenced by his poor 63.2 Recent Greens in Regulation mark.

Whether it’s the new change in his grip or just a down period, it’s really tough to buy Bryson at his current 30-1 mark. He’s also had trouble in his admittedly young career getting up for these loaded major fields.

The talent is still there, and if he turns it around he can compete with the best of the bunch, but I think he’s better reserved for a contrarian DFS play in the Millionaire Maker than worthy of a bet to win at his current numbers. –Bryan Mears

Tony Finau 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Finau is on my card at +4500 and I think this is a great spot him to break through. He’s got a chance to follow that Koepka mold where he doesn’t really win any regular tour events, but catches fire for a stretch in the majors. His tee-to-green game gives him a chance on a course of this length and since we’re not on Bermuda greens, the putter has a better chance at cooperating, as well. — Joshua Perry

Jordan Spieth 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Wouldn’t it be ironic — or at least one hell of a turn of events — if the narrative about Spieth’s extended struggles ended with him becoming the sixth player in history to claim the career grand slam?

Unlike Rory McIlroy at last month’s Masters, when he was the pre-tourney favorite to win and clinch the slam, or next month’s U.S. Open, when Phil Mickelson will return from his early-season win at Pebble Beach and try to join the club, there’s little discussion about Spieth chasing history because of his current form.

And while Bethpage shouldn’t suit his game, even when his best stuff is evident, he did post a top 10 here at the 2016 Barclays. — Jason Sobel

Patrick Cantlay 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Cantlay is in awesome form right now, placing in the top 10 in six of his last nine events entering this week. He’s coming off a third at Heritage and ninth at the Masters. That said, diving into those results, there are questions: Those two recent results came because of a super hot putter; he wasn’t great off the tee or with his irons. His 59% Recent GIR mark is one of the worst in the field, which shows just how good the short stick has been.

That’s the case for and against him: His long-term form off the tee and with his irons is excellent; will that return? Or will the putting regress? I don’t like him at the same price as Hideki Matsuyama given that uncertainty, but I think he’s worthy of exposure in DFS, especially in large-field GPPs where you can stomach the downside to get the upside. — Bryan Mears

Hideki Matsuyama 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

• Odds to Win PGA Championship: 50-1

• Tee Times: 8:13 a.m. ET Thursday; 1:38 p.m. ET Friday

Per usual, Matsuyama will likely find his way on my DFS teams as a core play. He’s a slight value at his tag with his 68.5 Long-Term Adjusted Round Score. Deki has thrived at PGA Championship events in the past, making all six cuts with three top-25s and two top-10s. Over his past 50 rounds, he ranks second in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and first in Strokes Gained: Approach.

He can also handle the length of this course with his 304.7-yard Long-Term Driving Distance. An excellent ball-striker with length off the tee? Yes, please. I’ll likely even have an outright on him. — Justin Bailey

Adam Scott 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

It’s been an atypical statistical season for Scott so far. To the naked eye, it appears like his ball-striking is locked in, as usual, but his putting remains a question mark. The truth is, Scott ranks 40th in strokes gained tee to green and 14th in strokes gained putting.

It was tough watching him repeatedly miss short ones on the greens while contending at the Masters, but if he actually putts like the 14th best this week, he stands a chance to make some serious noise come Sunday afternoon. — Jason Sobel

Patrick Reed 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Reed will likely catch people’s eyes considering he won at this course at the 2016 Barclays. That said, he’s not rating highly for me entering this week given his recent form. He’s 24th in the field in Long-Term Adjusted Round Score but just 72nd in the Recent metric. He hasn’t really had any eye-popping performances since his Masters win a year ago, and his LT Greens in Regulation mark currently sits 120th in this field.

The course history is compelling, but that doesn’t outweigh the negatives of his play over the past year for me. Further, I think that history (and winning the Masters) is resulting in him being overpriced in the betting market and DFS. I’ll be looking to fade him if the market presents itself. — Bryan Mears

Paul Casey 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

• Odds to Win PGA Championship: 50-1
• DFS Pricing: $8,300 DraftKings; $10,000 FanDuel
• Tee Times: 12:32 p.m. ET Thursday, 7:07 a.m. Friday

Casey’s odds of around 50-1 to win are intriguing given his long-term talent across his career. But I’m worried about his form and he’s not a great fit at Bethpage.

Casey has some strong finishes this season, notably winning Valspar in March. In fact, he’s had five top-5 finishes over his last eight tournaments. But in the two strongest fields (and toughest courses) — The Masters and Players — he missed the cut badly.

The PGA Championship has been his worst major, as he’s more of a pure ball-striker than a guy who is going to gain strokes off the tee. He has just one top 10 at this event in his 16 appearances.

In his two visits to Bethpage, he has a 31st and a missed cut. There are golfers with similar numbers I’m way more interested in like Hideki Matsuyama and Bubba Watson, so I’ll be passing on Casey exposure this week. — Bryan Mears

Matt Kuchar 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

If I’m running just one lineup in tournaments, I’d likely fade Kuchar. But, it’s hard to ignore his consistency. He was major chalk at the Masters, but his salary has increased $800 on DraftKings for this event.

He’s not going to dominate off the tee, but he still ranks ninth in total strokes gained, including 10th in Strokes Gained: Approach over his past 50 rounds. Further, there are eight par 4s ranging from 400-450 yards and 450-500 yards at Bethpage, and Kuchar ranks ninth and sixth in par-4 efficiency from those distances, per Fantasy National.

Despite his lack of length, Kuchar is still relatively efficient on par 5s, averaging -4.9 adjusted strokes on them over the past 75 weeks. Overall, Kuchar checks every box I’m looking at this week with the exception of driving distance. — Justin Bailey

Phil Mickelson 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

I won’t be on Phil, but he has had success here, finishing second in the 2009 U.S. Open. He looked good early in the year and got the win at Pebble Beach. Since then, however, he’s only had one top-20 in six starts and missed the cut three times. — Joshua Perry

Louis Oosthuizen 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Oosthuizen is one of the most difficult players to predict on tour, so I find myself staying away pretty much every tournament. He’s shown the ability to contend in major, but he only has one top 20 since October, so there’s not much there in terms of current form. — Joshua Perry

Bubba Watson 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

I won’t touch Bubba in cash games because he doesn’t fit the profile of guys I usually target in that format, but he’s an intriguing tournament play.

Watson has played at Bethpage three times since 2009 and has finished inside the top 18 in each start. He dominates off the tee, ranking third in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee over his past 50 rounds, but if his approach game is off, he could start piling up bogeys in a hurry because he grades poorly in most other metrics. — Justin Bailey

Sergio Garcia 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Sergio was one of my first PGA Championship bets at +6600 a few months back. Tee to green, he’s as good as anyone. He’s also stacked up good results at Bethpage, finishing third at the Barclays and 10th at the U.S. Open here. — Joshua Perry

Henrik Stenson 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Stenson got off to a slow start to the season, missing the cut in four of his first six events, but he’s been trending upward since the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

He doesn’t have any high finishes to his name, but he’s gained strokes on approach in every start since the API.

His lack of distance is the main concern on a course this long, but he ranks 18th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green over his past 50 rounds.

And at $7,900 on DraftKings, he warrants consideration with his top-20 Long-Term Adjusted Round Score while being priced outside the top 25. — Justin Bailey

Gary Woodland 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Woodland is a solid fit for this course with his 312.9-yard Long-Term Driving Distance and -5.7 adjusted strokes on par 5s.

He’s in the conversation for cash games on DraftKings considering he has a top-20 Long-Term Adjusted Round Score and is priced outside the top 25. It’s not often you can roster a guy who ranks 10th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green at his salary.

That said, he’s coming off a missed cut at the Wells Fargo Championship, and he’s lost strokes on approach in four his past five tournaments with Shotlink data available.

If I can find a missed cut prop in the +150 or higher range, I just might take it. –Justin Bailey

Kevin Kisner 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Kisner isn’t a fan of bomber courses and is pretty open about his inability to compete against the long hitters on courses like this. He’s been playing really well for months now and might be worth a top-20 stab, but I can’t see much more from him.

Ian Poulter 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

When you’re one of the most outspoken and flashiest golfers in the world, it’s tough to remain under the radar, but Poulter has somehow managed that so far this year.

Perhaps because he hasn’t won, his performance is being overlooked, but in 11 worldwide starts so far, he owns eight finishes of 18th-or-better, including a T-12 at the Masters when it looked like he was primed to contend on Sunday’s back-nine. — Jason Sobel

Marc Leishman 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

As one of the favorites in last week’s AT&T Byron Nelson field, Leishman withdrew with a back injury just hours before his Thursday tee time. The low-hitting Aussie was already playing below his usual standards over the previous few months and isn’t a course fit for Bethpage.

Even if he insists he’s fully healthy prior to this week’s event, we should proceed with caution. — Jason Sobel

Webb Simpson 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Here’s a fun one for you: Since his U.S. Open victory in 2012, Simpson played 21 majors without another top-20 result — until last year, that is, when he went 20-12-10-19 at the four of ‘em, then followed up with a T-5 at last month’s Masters.

Much of those struggles can be blamed on the anchoring ban, but he’s clearly figured out how to putt without it, insisting he’s better on the greens now than he ever would’ve been had he been allowed to continue anchoring. — Jason Sobel

Aaron Wise 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

A year that began with a T-27 in a 33-man field followed by three consecutive MCs has started to round into form for last season’s Rookie of the Year. His mid-iron game remains one of the better parts of his performance, as he ranked fourth on the PGA Tour in birdie-or-better percentage from 150-175 yards, which should be a crucial statistic at Bethpage.

Don’t be surprised by another top-20 finish on the heels of his 17th-place result at the recent Masters. — Jason Sobel

Cameron Smith 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

The best part of Smith’s game? He’s an extraordinary wedge player. This is great news at most venues, but perhaps not at Bethpage, which will require players to hit longer clubs into many of the greens.

That doesn’t mean Smith can’t smooth a few 6- or 7-irons into these greens, but it does mean his usual advantage is negated this week, which should hinder his overall result. — Jason Sobel

Si Woo Kim 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

Si Woo is one of the better putters on tour, which is always a good thing at majors. But the weather and greens here could make putting easier than a typical major, and that could potentially negate his edge.

That means he’ll be competing against this field in what’s truly important here: Bombing it straight off the tee as far as possible and nailing greens. Those are not his strengths, and he’s yet to make a cut at a PGA Championship in his three tries. I won’t be buying him here, either. — Bryan Mears

Time for some real talk: It’s pretty difficult to be a player of Hoffman’s caliber for this long — which is to say, not the best in the world by any means, but a solid ball-striker and a guy who can climb some boards — and repeatedly be this awful at a tournament which changes venues every year.

Unlike the other three major championships, there’s not really a prototypical PGA Championship performer. There are, though, players who — for whatever reason — just never seem to elevate their games at this one.

This has been the case for Fitz so far in his career, as he’s posted just one made cut in three starts, a T-49 three years ago. He certainly owns the talent to play better, though, as evidenced by last month’s T-21 at the Masters. — Jason Sobel

Mitchell is my favorite daily fantasy player this week in the $7,000-$7,500 range on DraftKings.

Since he changed putters earlier this year, he has a win and two other top-10 finishes in seven events. He remains one of the best tee-to-green players on Tour, ranking second in greens in regulation, and now that he is putting with confidence, we are starting to see what kind of player he can be.

I believe Mitchell is a must-play this week in DFS at his price. And don’t be surprised to see him in the top 20 on the leaderboard on Sunday. — Drew Stoltz

Grace is an easy fade in DFS and in the betting markets for a course like this. The par 4s could eat Grace alive as six of them are above 450 yards, and he’s been abysmal on par 4s, averaging +2.2 adjusted strokes on them over the past 75 weeks.

Furthermore, he ranks just 70th in Strokes Gained: Approach over his past 50 rounds, which could spell trouble for Grace since he possesses scrambling rate of just 54.1%. —Justin Bailey

It’s tough to imagine lightning striking twice in the same spot for him, but if nothing else, those memories should provide a little good juju going into the week. — Jason Sobel

If he can put up a decent result though, he’s a much better fit for Pebble Beach and Royal Portrush in the next two majors. — Joshua Perry

Emiliano Grillo 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

On the surface, Grillo doesn’t seem like a great fit at Bethpage, but he did come in second here at the 2016 Barclays event. Most of that success came because his irons and putter were hot, though, and he’s really struggled with the short stick lately, ranking as one of the worst in the field in Recent Putts Per Round.

As such, given his overall fit — he’ll need to be brilliant with his irons and putter again due to his middling distance off the tee — I won’t be buying him in the betting market. His price is low enough in DFS that perhaps he’s worth a lineup or two in the Millionaire Maker given his long-term form and talent, but he’s not someone I’ll be investing in heavily this week. — Bryan Mears

Brandt Snedeker

Snedeker has shown the ability to pop up here with a second at the 2012 Barclays, but in his other two starts, he finished 48th or worse. I'll be staying away. — Joshua Perry

It's a big advantage for him that he played his college golf at St. John’s University and has logged more rounds at Bethpage than any other player in the field.

I like Bradley a lot this week for daily fantasy, especially given where he is priced. — Drew Stoltz

This is not a great course fit for him given the distance required, and he’s also in terrible recent form, with two missed cuts prior to last week’s withdrawal at the Byron Nelson. He didn’t say why he withdrew, so it’s unclear if it was due to injury, but it gives another reason to avoid him this week. — Bryan Mears

I don’t get this one. To me, Pieters is one the biggest head-scratchers in the game. With his prodigious length off the tee and habit of playing well in big events, I had him earmarked as an impending superstar just a few years ago.

It’s not that he’s completely lost his game — he ranks inside the world’s top 100 and owns four top-25 results on the European Tour this year — it’s just that his game hasn’t risen to the level that was expected.

That said, he was T-6 at last year’s PGA and this course should suit him well. I love him for a top-10 bet at a nice price or a lower-cost DFS option. — Jason Sobel

The new darling of the daily fantasy community, Sung-jae Im has been a great addition to nearly any DFS lineup this year.

According to every tour pro who has played with him, Im's game is solid from tee to green. If he has a weakness, it might be his schedule. At Bethpage, Im will be playing for the fifth straight week, giving him more events in a row than almost any other player in the field.

It is difficult to stay mentally sharp for that many consecutive weeks, especially when the tail end of that stretch is a major championship at Bethpage Black. While his game is good enough to have a strong showing this week, I’m not convinced he will be as sharp as he usually is.

For that reason, I am staying away from him this week and will explore other options in his price range for DFS. — Drew Stoltz

He’s hit just 65.2% of greens in regulation over the past 75 weeks, and he ranks 57th and 59th in par-4 and par-5 efficiency, per Fantasy National.

The main worry is his approach game, ranking 89th in Strokes Gained: Approach. And he’s hitting just 65.7% of greens in regulation over the past 75 weeks.

Although, he’s a decent scrambler, so he could be able to handle damage control if his irons aren’t dialed in this week. I like him as a one-off three-entry max or mass-multi-entry play, but I wouldn’t be overexposed to him. — Justin Bailey

He can get hot with those, but he’ll likely always be in worse positions than a lot of the field hitting his second shot into these greens. Given the lack of course fit and inconsistent play of late, I don’t think I’ll be buying him this week in any format. — Jason Sobel

He beat Tiger Woods on Saturday morning at the WGC-Match Play, which (directly) led to an extra day-and-a-half off for Tiger and (indirectly) led to his Masters victory. Unfortunately for the Dane, that might be the most he impacts a major all year. — Jason Sobel

J.B. Holmes 2019 PGA Championship Betting Odds

He’s mildly interesting in DFS with his length off the tee, sporting a 307.6-yard Long-Term Driving Distance and ranking 21st in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee. His approach game isn’t awful, ranking 40th over his past 50 rounds, but he’s a terrible putter and struggles around the greens. I wouldn’t use him in cash games, but if you need a punt to round out your roster, you could do worse. — Justin Bailey

He’ll have more time to prep for this one, but without riding that wave of adrenaline, it’s tough to believe the Canadian is much more than a guy who can potentially just make the cut. — Jason Sobel

Luke List is an intriguing play this week at Bethpage. On paper, he checks every single box that you would look for in determining whether someone can play well at a venue like this. He is fourth on Tour in driving distance and near the top 25 in greens in regulation.

His driving accuracy does give me some cause for concern, as he ranks only 181st in fairways hit. But his putting has improved drastically this season, and because he will have such a huge advantage off the tee in terms of length, he's one of my favorite mid-tier daily fantasy options.

Of all the golfers in his price range, List might have the highest ceiling. — Drew Stoltz

One of the better ball strikers on Tour, Reavie is second in driving accuracy and 11th in greens in regulation.

His average length off the tee (286 yards) is not ideal for Bethpage, but he will be hitting from the fairway more often than almost anyone in the field, which should substantially minimize his distance shortcomings.

Reavie has top-20 finishes in his two most recent events, and I look for him to be around on the weekend, with a ceiling somewhere in the top-20 range. — Drew Stoltz
