BMW Championship: Looking for a longshot
The recent dominance by the players at the top of the board lends itself to some good players at big numbers further down.
I’ve targeted a handful of guys over the 100/1 mark that I think can contend here.
Topping that list are Jason Dufner and Charl Schwartzel at 100/1. Both have been playing solid golf for a month or two now, but each seems to run into a bad stretch at some point during the event that keeps them from truly contending. They’ve been able to play well for 45 or 54 holes, but not quite put everything together. I think that players of their quality are both capable of being near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday.
The other two players I’m targeting in this range are Russell Henley at 110/1 and Emiliano Grillo at 140/1. Grillo in particular is someone I’m keeping a close eye on this range. He’s started to find a little form with top 30 finishes in both FedEx Cup events and may have received an added boost of confidence after making the President’s Cup.
I like top 5 plays on all four of these players at over 20/1 as well.
Stenson 25/1 (1.4)
Rose 30/1 (1.15)
Cantlay 55/1 (.65)
Mickelson 65/1 (.55)
Hoffman 75/1 (.45)
Z. Johnson 75/1 (.45)
Dufner 100/1 (.35)
Schwartzel 100/1 (.35)
Henley 110/1 (.3)
Grillo 140/1 (.25)
