Heading into today's final round of the British Open, Shane Lowry (-16) holds a four-stroke over second-place Tommy Fleetwood and a six-stroke lead over J.B. Holmes, so it's no surprise to see Lowry as the odds-on favorite to win the Open Championship.
Many books opened Lowry in the -150 to -175 range after Saturday, and while British Open futures are off the board at some books, others are still hanging the leader at -200 and above.
With Lowry now going off at 8:47 a.m. ET for his final round due to inclement weather, sharp bettors pounced to drive those early numbers up to -200 range.
Why? It could simply be due to Lowry being undervalued as the tournament leader with a four-stroke lead available.
Or because tee times were moved to earlier in the day to avoid the worst of Sunday's brutal weather forecast at Royal Portrush, savvy bettors (and the market) could have seen even more value in Lowry's lead in the tamer early conditions.
That's exactly what The Action Network's Jason Sobel theorizes in his look at the effect of today's earlier times, believing that the easier conditions should help Lowry.
Lowry is joined by Fleetwood in today's final pairing at 8:47 a.m. ET with Holmes and Brooks Koepka going off at 8:37 a.m. ET.
