Ohio sports bettors will have another sports wagering option when legal Ohio sports betting goes live in 2023.

Barstool Sportsbook has partnered with the Hollywood Casino Toledo to open Barstool's first retail sportsbook in The Buckeye State next year. The Toledo casino is owned by Penn National Gaming, which is the parent company of Barstool and theScore Bet.

Barstool will join the growing Ohio legal sports betting options after BetMGM, betJACK, DraftKings and PointsBet previously announced their intentions to join the market.

Other anticipated Ohio sportsbooks include the group of Bally Bet, betPARX, Caesars, Fubo and Tipico, which have all secured partnerships with various pro Ohio teams, a PGA Tournament venue and a racino.

There are three other Ohio casinos owned by Penn National Gaming:

  • Hollywood Casino Columbus
  • Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway
  • Hollywood Mahoning Valley Race Course

The Buckeye State has been surrounded by legal sports betting states for multiple years. Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania have all previously legalized sports betting. Starting Jan. 1, 2023, Ohioans will no longer need to travel to neighboring states to place their sports bets.

Ohio is expected to become one of the premier legal sports betting states quickly after it launches. As the seventh-most populated U.S. state, it's expected that more sportsbooks will attempt to apply for a license to earn some footing in what will be a massive sports betting market.
