49ers-Seahawks Week 15 Preview

After a 24-30 surrender to the Panthers, the Seahawks suddenly find themselves on the outside looking in of the NFC playoff scene. Geno Smith at the helm in Seattle has been a surprising success all season as the Hawks have pulled off improbable victories to stay above .500 for most of 2022. They now face the 49ers for their second meeting after losing 27-7 in Week 2.

Smith threw two interceptions and completed 58.3% of his throws in the Panthers loss, so this game will serve as a bounce-back opportunity to right the ship when needed most. He’ll regain Seattle’s feature back in Kenneth Walker. Walker’s absence in Week 14 led Seattle to abandon the run, which put more pressure on Smith’s ability to move the ball downfield.

This 49ers rush defense is tough though. The league’s No. 1 defense is allowing 75.1 scrimmage yards per game and held the Seahawks to only 36 in Week 2. Walker has had his coming-out party since then, as the rookie back has tallied nine scores and has seen double-digit carries in six of his last seven games.

San Fransisco’s offense is now in the hands of rookie Brock Purdy, who showed up Tom Brady in his first career start. The 2022 seventh-rounder threw two touchdowns and ran one in himself while amassing only 188 yards. It’s a safe offense to manage when your defense is elite and you are surrounded by electric playmakers most naming being Christian McCaffery.

McCaffery averaged 8.5 yards per carry in Week 14. That is not a typo. He scored a rush and receiving touchdown and did what he does best in bolstering the offense no matter what the opposition presents. He’s now scored six total touchdowns and is averaging 106 total yards per game since his Week 7 arrival in San Fransisco.

This Seahawks defense presents Christmas dinner ten days early for McCaffery — allowing 160.5 rushing yards per game this season and ranking 31st in the stat overall. The key to the 49ers covering here could just be Purdy simply handing the ball to McCaffery. Walker will have to answer the bell to keep the Seahawks within pace against a tough matchup where there’s a significant defensive advantage.

How to Activate the Free Bets

Let’s place this parlay wager on Thursday Night Football:

Bet Line
Christian McCaffery 78.5+ Rush Yards -110
Seahawks +3.5 -115
Total +285

You simply bet $1 or more and get $200 in free bets back — regardless of the bet’s outcome.

So I’ll put $10 on the two-leg parlay listed above, which Bet365 has priced at +349.

If both legs hit, I will get a payout of $34.9 and see the $200 back. But if it loses, I’ll lose my $10 wager, but still get the $200 in free bets.

Using Free Bets Wisely

You keep the profits if your free bet wins, but not the free bets.

Say I take $100 of the $200 and place it all on Cincinnati to defeat Louisville in the Fenway Bowl on Friday —  priced at +102.

Here’s how this bet could look:

Outcome Cash Total $
Cinci Wins $102 $202
Cinci Loses $0 $100

The best way to use your free bets is on longshots, because you’re getting much more expected value.

Quick Bet Tip: How to Hedge

In sports betting circles, you may have heard the term “hedge” thrown around a time or two. Hedging is a more grounded approach to betting; a bettor will wage on the opposite side of their original bet when the odds of it winning becomes more realistic.

An example would be as such: Let’s say I bet $1,000 on the Seahawks to upset the 49ers at +155. The Seahawks are leading by a possession in the fourth quarter. The +155 is no longer available on the market at this point, as the Seahawks moneyline would be minus since they’re leading.

I can either ride the bet out and hope the Seahawks can finish ahead or hedge the bet to insure my $1,000. This means I would place a wager on the 49ers to come from behind and win the game. It would cut my winnings if the Seahawks still win, but also provide some sort of profit in the case of either result.
