How Free Bets Work
Here's an example from Thursday.
Here's how free bets work — imagine they pay for your bet, and you get to keep the winnings if it hits, but you don't keep the original bet amount that they spotted you.
Bet365 also splits up its free bets into any increment — so you can use $10 on Panthers–Falcons, $20 on Memphis-Tulsa, and $170 this weekend. It's up to you.
We'll use Panthers vs. Falcons as an example. Say you deposit the $10, bet $1 on a random event Thursday afternoon and get the $200 in free bets. You put $50 of those free bets on Cordarrelle Patterson to score a touchdown on TNF at +105.
- If Patterson scores, you win $52.50 ($50 x 1.05) but don't keep the original $50.
- If Patterson doesn't score, the free bets go away.
Here's what your account will look like, assuming you only deposited $10 in real cash.
Name | Cash | Free Bets |
---|---|---|
Patterson TD | $62.50 | $150 |
Patterson No TD | $10 | $150 |

How to Use Free Bets on Friday
We always recommend using free bets on plus-money wagers, because you're getting much more expected value.
Our staff loves the under on Michigan State vs. Gonzaga in college basketball action: "These are two good teams and we should all be excited to see them play. And yet, I’m throwing all basketball knowledge out the window and betting the under for one simple reason: the game is being played outdoors on a boat! The USS Abraham Lincoln is certain to be a great atmosphere for a game played on Veterans Day, though it is a far departure from the venues where both teams typically play and practice. We have some prior data, though from an incredibly small sample size. In 2011, Michigan State played North Carolina in a similar setting. The final score was just 76-55, thanks to dismal shooting on both ends. The teams combined to make just 6-of-32 from long range, good for 19%. Michigan State shot 30.6% from the field and only scored 0.82 points per possession."
Take ECU against Cincinnati: "Both of these teams have improved nearly every week as the season has progressed. However, there are two continuous issues for the Bearcats that I believe will cost them this game. Cincinnati has struggled when it comes to third-down conversions as well as Finishing Drives. The Bearcats rank ninth among 11 AAC teams in red-zone offense and come in at 75th in Finishing Drives. They’re also converting just 37.7% of third-down attempts. ECU, meanwhile, leads the AAC in third-down conversions, reaching the marker 50.8% of the time. Its defense will also make things difficult in the red zone for the Bearcats, as the Pirates come in at 37th in Defensive Finishing Drives. The Pirates offense isn’t great in that area, ranking 72nd in Finishing Drives, but it should expose a Cincinnati defense that comes in at 59th. Back East Carolina to keep it close at +3 or better."
The Timberwolves are in a bounceback spot against the Grizzlies, at least relative to the number: "I could see this game going either way, but I have to buy Timberwolves at their lowest point of the season. Gobert poses unique challenges to Morant’s style of play and should be able to limit Steven Adams on the offensive glass. The Timberwolves should also be able to get up lots of threes against a Memphis defense that ranks 26th in three-point rate. The Minnesota bigs should also have some success at the rim as the Grizzlies defense ranks 17th in rim rate this season. This is the low point for the Timberwolves, who are coming off multiple horrible losses and I think that we are getting value on a team that should be motivated going up against the team that eliminated them from playoff contention last year. I’d play this down to +5. At anything below +5, I would prefer to bite at the moneyline, which is playable down to +170."
