  • Signing up at BetMGM and need some free cash? Bonus code ACTION will unlock a $1,000 risk-free bet.
  • So how does it work? We'll explain below, and cover which codes are available in which states.
  • Claim it now ahead of Eagles vs. Texans on Thursday Night Football.

We're almost halfway through the NFL season, but BetMGM bonus code ACTION will still unlock a $1,000 risk-free bet for Eagles vs. Texans, or any other sporting event this weekend.

If you're in Kansas, Louisiana or Illinois, bonus code ACTIONYARD will fetch $200 in free bets if the NFL team they bet throws for at least one passing yard.

Let's dive into how each offer works.

For Thursday Night Football, you should also take advantage of BetMGM's first-touchdown insurance — we already broke down the optimal way to bet this promo.

BetMGM is not offering any promotional offers for New York bettors.

How Risk-Free Bets Work at BetMGM

The terminology for sportsbook offers can be pretty darn confusing. So we did an explainer on how different sportsbook offers work, and what each one means.

Risk-free bet isn't exactly what it sounds like. There's some risk.

Here's an example. Say I sign up, deposit $100 and bet $100 on Miles Sanders to score a touchdown against the Texans on Thursday night. The Eagles running back is priced at +105 at BetMGM at time of publish.

  • If Sanders scores, I pocket $105, and keep the original $100. I'll now have $205 in my account.
  • If Sanders doesn't score, I get $100 in free bets.

BetMGM will split up its free-bet increments into smaller chunks, but you don't ket to decide them. In the case of $100 in free bets, you should get five, $20 free bets that can be used on anything.

Free Bets at BetMGM

So how do free bets work?

You'll get far more value betting at plus-money, due to the expected value.

But let's dive into how free bets work. Think about it like this — BetMGM is paying for the bet stake, and if it wins, you keep the profits. But you don't get to keep the stake.

Returning to our above example, let's say that Sanders doesn't score on TNF against the Texans. Boo.

I'll get $100 in free bets back that I can use on anything I'd like.

But I'm feeling really good about Tennessee moneyline against Georgia on Saturday, so I put it all on the Vols at +260.

  • If Tennessee wins, I profit $260, but don't keep the $100 in free bets. Now off a $100 deposit, I've made $160 total.
  • If UT loses, I end up with $0 in my account.

That's why it's not totally risk-free — you can lose your entire deposit if you're not careful.

How to Use Free Bets Thursday

Our betting experts have already tackled the monster Thursday sports slate with a few ways to use your promotional bets.

How Bonus Code ACTIONYARD Works

Are you in Kansas, Illinois or Louisiana? ACTIONYARD will get you $200 in free bets if the NFL or CFB team you bet gets 1+ passing yard. Just don't bet on Army-Air Force this weekend, and you should be set.

It's a better offer than the $1,000 risk-free, because you don't actually have to put much money up front to turn it into a few hundred bucks.

BetMGM will split it into four, $50 free bets. Again, we always recommend betting plus-money with free bets.

Keep in mind that you just need any NFL game to unlock the $200 in free bets. So even if you're not a football fan, you should use it, then you can use the $200 on anything you like — MLB, NHL, soccer, CFB, etc.
