Pittsburgh is amidst a four-game landslide that’s coming at the worst point in its season. The Pens have now slipped outside the playoff picture and have allowed the Panthers to usurp them for the final Wild Card spot.

The defending Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche haven’t enjoyed the same consistency that cruised them into last season’s playoffs. But the it’s two points out of first place in the Central Division and is seemingly recapturing that swagger now having won six straight.

For both of these teams, every remaining game will be critical for position. The Penguins took the previous game on Feb 7. in a 2-1 overtime decision.

Let’s use Nicholas Martin’s player prop on Dennis Malgin to score a goal in the tilt as a fine plus money wager for a first bet on the house promotion:

Malgin has scored eight goals in his last 18 games with Colorado, which automatically makes a price of +425 interesting tonight.

Most importantly, however, is that Malgin is likely to be up on the Avalanche top line now with Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. Therefore, he’s significantly more likely to produce than he was in his previous usage with Colorado.

In 4:53 seconds together against Chicago that trio played to a 100% xGF share, and Malgin broke through with two goals and an assist against the Blackhawks.

If Avs coach Jared Bednar decides to play around with the lines in the middle of the game again, Malgin does still seem to have a strong hold on a top-six spot. That means we can live with this +425 number against a Penguins team that’s conceding a wealth of goals.

How Does The Bet Settle?

At +425, if I were to place $1,000 on Malgin to score, I’d either get the payout of $5,250 with a goal, or receive $1,000 in bonus bets if he doesn’t score.

Using Bonus Bets Effectively

Our betting method says to wager on odds between +200 and +500 because it gives you the best chance to profit in the long run. Bonus bets aren’t kept whether we win or lose with them.

McDavid’s goal-scoring in particular has really picked up of late however. He has put up 16 goals over his last 14 games, which included a historic stretch of five consecutive multi-goal games.

Arizona has defended more effectively than you might expect, but its 3.42 goals against per game average makes it a great target for this prop, especially as the Coyotes played last night in Winnipeg. McDavid also torched the Coyotes for two goals and two assists in this season’s previous meeting.

OK, so for McDavid to pot a pair of goals on Wednesday, we’d be looking at +375 odds.

We can break up bonus bets, so I’ll take $100 and bet them on McDavid’s prop. If it wins, I would make a $375 payout. But if it loses, I would profit nothing and I won’t keep the $100 either way.
