Patriots-Cardinals Bet Preview
It’s been a campaign of underwhelming affairs in both Arizona and New England. Monday’s kickoff will feature two narratives of deficiency coming together: The Patriots are 0-3 in primetime games this season while the Cardinals can’t buy a win in Glendale — bearing a 1-6 home record.
It looks as if the books think Arizona’s slump is more problematic, as FanDuel has the Pats priced as modest 2.5-point favorites. Both teams feature young quarterbacks trying to put one foot in front of the other late in the season. Mac Jones hasn’t thrown a pick in four straight games.
Aside from that, the second-year first rounder hasn’t shown anything to fawn over. He has as many touchdowns on the season as he does interceptions and owns a QBR of 35.1, which sits at 28th among starting quarterbacks.
On the other hand, Kyler Murray has been entrenched in a frustrating year of regression. Murray holds a 51.3 QBR and has surrendered six turnovers amidst the Cardinals three-game skid. The touchdowns are suddenly not coming as easy for the former No. 1 overall pick as he’s throwing them at a 3.6% rate. Murray hasn’t clinched a victory since Week 7.
Monday night will also see two running backs in similar shoes. James Conner posted his season-best in his last outing against the Chargers — posting 140 total yards and a touchdown. Rhamondre Stevenson has been the only consistency to this Arizona offense, as the first-year feature back is averaging 93 total yards a game.
Neither team has been dominant against the spread: The Patriots are 6-5-1 while the Cardinals are 6-6. Given the question marks shadowing both clubs and their quarterbacks, there’s not a lot of confidence in cases for either to cover.
Betting With FanDuel’s Maryland Promo
One of the neat perks of sportsbook promos are that they’re the perfect remedy for mitigating the impact of the juice. The juice (or vig) is the cost a book will charge for taking a bet. Since this promo provides an opportunity to jack up your return, you won’t see the same vig that an ordinary bet would have.
For example, if you bet $5 on a coin toss with your friend, you’d make $5 if you win. When betting with a sportsbook, you’d make back $4.55. So, the book keeps $0.45 on this bet.
In this case, you’re seeing added value to your $5 football bet either way since you’re getting $200 back regardless of its outcome.
Which leads to why it’s also best to go with longshots. The higher the line, the more profits you will start to see over time. Let’s find a healthy line by creating a parlay on Pats-Cards:
Bet | Line |
---|---|
James Conner ATD | -110 |
Rhamondre Stevenson 75.5+ Yards | -110 |
Total | +266 |
Your $5 would see $13.30 in winnings and a payout of $18.30 should both Conner and Stevenson convert. If they don’t however, you see $200 in free bets.
Bet With Free Bets
Think of free bets as credits from the book — they can only be used to wager, not withdraw. They don’t have to be all used at once, so you can place multiple bets with portions of your free bets.
Here’s a few more quick notes:
- If the bet wins, you’ll get the profits, but the free bets are gone.
- Should it lose, and you are not staked with free bets again. You will just lose your wager.
- Free bets expire if you do not use them within the given window, which is one week.
- They can’t be used to bet with other FanDuel promotions either.
Let’s say you take your $200 worth of free bets and plop it on the Islanders to beat the Bruins. FanDuel has this priced at +155 as of Monday.
An Isles victory would spell $310 in winnings, but the $200 is no longer with you. A B’s win would spell a nice $0.
