Legal sports betting in Ohio is right around the corner, Buckeyes.

In order to prepare for Ohio's upcoming launch, we've gathered the state's most noteworthy sports betting rules for bettors to be aware of when betting goes live at midnight on Jan. 1.

Ohio Sports Betting Rules

Although sports betting rules tend to vary by state, Ohio's got you covered with the option to bet on all the major sports markets out there:

Age Regulations

  • 18+ for Esports, horse racing, lottery contests, and DFS
  • 21+ to place sports bets

Bet Types Available

House Bill 29 states that 13 bet types will be available for bettors:

  • Exchange Betting
  • In-Game Wagering
  • In-Play Bets
  • Moneylines
  • Over-Unders
  • Pari-Mutual Pools
  • Parlays
  • Pools
  • Prop Bets
  • Single-Game
  • Spreads
  • Straight Bets
  • Teasers

Most legal betting states offer the same amount of bet types with the common exception being in-game betting on college athletes.

Additionally, exchange betting is a new bet type in the U.S. market that launched in New Jersey on Aug. 29. Exchange betting originally started in the U.K. in 2000 with Betfair.

With the emergence of this bet type in the U.S., Prophet Exchange became the first legalized betting exchange sportsbook app to launch in North America. Sporttrade, another betting exchange platform, followed suit by launching in September.

As of now, Prophet Exchange will launch in Ohio in early 2023, which will become it's second-legalized market in the U.S.
