Online sports betting is live in over 20 states, so why can you only bet on league MVP or DPOY in some?

In their gaming laws, New York, Virginia and Rhode Island exclude wagering on events based on subjective outcomes. That prevents betting on player awards in those states, as they're typically determined by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

Similar definitions prevents betting on league drafts in several states as well.

Here's a full list of where you can and can't bet on league awards:

Non-award betting states do allow betting on objective player futures like NFL regular season passing yards leader and NBA scoring leader.

Upcoming online sports betting markets in Ohio, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine and Nebraska are expected to include awards betting, but that could change depending on what regulators decide.

There's been momentum to expand betting menus among lawmakers in a few states, so this list could change in the future.
