Moose Alert: Meaningless Two-Out Rally, Unless You Bet
Indians ace Corey Kluber (-245, O/U 8) faced Mariners starter Erasmo Ramirez tonight in The Land. Given the massive pitching mismatch, I know a lot of bettors out there took the Indians -1.5 -120.
Well, that bet got off to a perfect start, as the Indians hit three home runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Cleveland would eventually hit five homers, which helped them build a commanding 6-0 lead after six innings.
Seattle RF Mitch Haniger did hit a two-run bomb off Kluber in the seventh inning, but no biggie. Cleveland still had a four-run lead with one of the best pitchers in baseball on the mound.
That said, the Indians should have had a much larger lead than 6-2 after eight innings, but all five of their homers were solo shots. Still, those who bet the Indians -1.5 had zero worries, especially with the two-time Cy Young award winner coming back out for the ninth inning — with a four-run cushion.
Kluber faced Mariners sluggers Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz to start the inning, and he handled both with ease.
Two down with nobody on and a 6-2 lead — with Cruz and Cano out of the way. Easy. Could even afford to give up two more runs.
Kyle Seager steps up to the plate against Kluber, who gets it to a 2-2 count. One strike away.
Single.
Mound visit. Pitching change.
In comes Cody Allen, the Indians' closer. He's got this, right?
Mitch Haniger doubles.
Second and third, but still two outs. You can even afford a double.
Next up? Mike Zunino, a .209 career hitter and .208 hitter this season. Cake.

Allen did get the last out, and the Tribe held on for the victory by a single run. The Indians outhit the Mariners 13-6, but won only 6-5.
I didn't even mention under 8 bettors or those who hit the Mariners' team total under. Triple moose — all with two outs and nobody on. Brutal.
Betting on baseball is so fun, right? Just wait until the dog days of August.
