Wake and Rake: Public Loves Cy Kluber, Sharp Bettors Not So Sure

This morning, while you were busy wondering if the Cheerios you were eating actually helped your cholesterol or not, you probably didn't realize that sharp bettors had already faded Cy Young winner Corey Kluber (pictured above) and his 102-win Indians teammates.

As a matter of fact, you were still in bed dreaming of sugar plum fairies while these wise fellers were getting down on Tyler Skaggs and the Angels…unless you live in Europe or something.

Unsurprisingly, public bettors are getting down heavy on Kluber in the early going, as the Indians are getting 82% of bets at the time of publication. Cleveland lost Kluber's first start in Seattle 2-1, as Kluber's one mistake to Nelson Cruz in the first inning ended up being the difference.

Kluber can't lose two starts in a row, can he? That's what the public believes, but sharp bettors aren't buying into the hype.

With two reverse line moves triggered on the Angels — one last night while you were drinking your warm milk and another in the middle of the night — they've gone from +138 to +131 at Pinnacle since opening. Kluber's Indians have gone from -150 to -142.

I feel that this line is approaching its sweet spot, with not much wiggle room left to be had. If the line moves much more toward Los Angeles, we're likely to see some buyback on the Indians before the 4:07 p.m. ET first pitch. If it moves too much back toward the Indians, we could see a repeat of the line movement that took place over the past 12 hours.
