BlackJack’s Sunday Plays of the Day: Why I’m Riding the Hot Cubs
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports. Pictured: Jon Lester
It's a Sunday, we're back in Vegas, and it's time to grab some wins, baby. There's nothing better than wrapping up a Summer Sunday with some wins. With the Gambling Olympics right around the corner, we need the wins to get the momentum going. We've got Travis Pastrana jumping over the fountains at Caesars Palace tonight, but our attention for the moment is focused on the diamond. That's where the action is, and that's where we are. It's time to take care of business, brother.
WINNERS
Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers (-122)
1:10 p.m. ET
Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports
The Tigers are sending Michael Fulmer to the mound today, and he has been very effective through five innings this year. After the fifth… not so much. This total is set at nine for the game, which feels a little high; I like the first five play here with Fulmer on the mound.
THE PICK: First five innings under 5.0 runs
Chicago Cubs (-149) at Cincinnati Reds
2:20 p.m. ET
Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports
The Cubs completed another comeback win last night against the Reds, and today they send the ageless Jon Lester to the hill. Lester has been quietly outstanding this season, going 11-2 with a 2.25 ERA. He is opposed by the very average Luis Castillo. The Cubs have been hot, going 8-2 in their past 10, and I see no reason to avoid them today.
THE PICK: Cubs ML
Colorado Rockies at Seattle Mariners (-137)
4:10 p.m. ET
Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports
The Mariners are starting the reliable, if not exciting, Wade LeBlanc. He has been good this year, just unable to go deep in games. The Rockies counter with Antonio Senzatela, who is making just his second career start. I'll take the better starter at home with the better team behind him.
THE PICK: Mariners ML
Let's cash some tickets, baby!
