Betting Terms to Know
Steam Move: Sudden, drastic and uniform line movement across the market caused by an overload of sharp action from respected players.
Reverse Line Movement: When the betting line moves in the opposite direction of the betting percentages. It’s a top smart money indicator.
Line Freeze: When one side is getting heavy betting but the line won’t budge, indicating sharp liability on the other side.
Juice: The tax or commission that bettors must pay the sportsbook in order for them to accept your wager. A -115 juice means a bettor would have to wager $115 to win $100.
Atlanta Braves at Pittsburgh Pirates
- Sharp angle: Braves -113
- First pitch: 7:05 p.m. ET
The Braves look to finish off the Pirates and complete the three-game sweep. Public bettors are somewhat undecided on which way to lean tonight, but sharps have taken a clear side.
Atlanta is getting 54% of bets but 85% of dollars, indicating moderate support but big smart money.
After opening at +104, the Braves have moved to -113, flipping from a dog to a favorite. In a vacuum, 54% of bets isn’t enough to move a line that much, so we know the movement is caused by sharp action.
Wiseguys at Pinnacle steamed ATL +102.

New York Yankees at Miami Marlins
- Sharp angle: Marlins +155
- First pitch: 7:10 p.m. ET
The Marlins tortured contrarian bettors last night, blowing multiple bases-loaded opportunities late in the game before losing, 2-1, in 12 innings.
Tonight, public bettors are going back to the Bronx Bombers’ well, but wiseguys are buying low on the Fish.
Miami is getting only a quarter of the bets but has seen massive run line movement, moving from +182 to +155.
Sharps at SIA got down hard on MIA +165. Miami also enjoys a huge bets vs. dollars discrepancy: the Marlins are getting only 24% of bets but 78% of dollars.
All bets risking one unit, not to win one unit. All plays Listed Pitcher, not Action.
