Sunday Sharp Report: Fading Trendy MLB Road Underdogs

- Sharp bettors were perfect in MLB on Saturday night and will look to keep it rolling on Sunday.
- There are two trendy road underdogs worth fading, and smart money is doing just that.
Saturday night was successful for sharp bettors as MLB plays went 3-0 for +2.86 units won. It was a great night for contrarians overall, as teams getting less than 40% of bets went 9-4 for a profit of +10.56 units. You can track all the latest odds and betting percentages here.
After analyzing Sunday's full 15-game slate, I’ve identified two bets that sharp bettors are eyeing.
Betting Terms to Know
Steam Move: Sudden, drastic and uniform line movement across the market caused by an overload of sharp action from respected players.
Reverse Line Movement: When the betting line moves in the opposite direction of the betting percentages. It’s a top smart money indicator.
Oakland Athletics at Colorado Rockies
- Sharp angle: Rockies (-124)
- First pitch 3:10 p.m. ET
Public bettors can't resist the temptation of getting Oakland at plus-money again, even though they've dropped two straight in Colorado. The Athletics have attracted nearly 70% of bets, making them one of the trendiest underdogs of the season.
The moneyline on Colorado (-124) is actually lower than the opener (-128), but that doesn't mean there hasn't been sharp action on the Rockies. Early Sunday morning, steam and reverse line movement hit Colorado at -116 and -117 at sharp sportsbooks like Pinnacle and The Greek, respectively. There's still plenty of value on the Rockies at their current price.

Seattle Mariners at Los Angeles Angels
- Sharp angle: Angels (-111)
- First pitch 4:07 p.m. ET
After dropping the first two games of the series, public bettors fully expect the Mariners to bounce back and grab a win in the finale. Seattle is receiving 69% of bets, but the sharper tickets have come in on Los Angeles.
Smart money hit the Angels on two separate occasions Sunday morning at both 5Dimes and BetOnline. Square bettors keep taking the Mariners at plus-money but they're definitely fade material, and I expect the Angels line to increase again before first pitch.
Lance Barksdale will be behind the plate and he's been incredibly lucrative for home teams. In our database, the home team has won at a 60.7% rate for more than +60 units won with Barksdale calling balls and strikes, another bonus for the Angels in LA.
