  • The 2019 MLB season gets fully underway this afternoon with 15 Opening Day matchups.
  • Using The Action Network's betting tools, we examine how professional bettors are approaching Opening Day.

The 2019 MLB season officially started last week when the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Atheltics played two regular season games in Japan, but the season truly begins with Thursday's full slate of Opening Day matchups.

Baseball bettors and fans have patiently waited through a long offseason for today, and even though the start of the 2019 season also falls on the first day of NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 games, the MLB action is coming in heavy.

In fact, the first month of the baseball season often provides plenty of value for savvy bettors because oddsmakers and the markets have yet to catch up to the current versions of these teams, allowing professionals to take advantage of softer lines.

And according to The Action Network's betting tools, sharps are getting down on three of today's Opening Day matchups.

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees

1:05 p.m. ET

Not only are the Yankees (-380 at Westgate) the biggest favorites of today's Opening Day games, but they're also among the largest Opening Day favorites ever.

However, professionals are bypassing this moneyline and are instead hitting the over/under. While steady overall action has come in on the over, the total has actually dropped from 9 to 8.5 across most of the betting market.

Why? Because smart money from respected bettors has forced oddsmakers to move this number. Sports Insights' Bet Signals, which track and report professional betting action, have triggered three Reverse Line Moves and one Steam Move on the under.

In addition, each of these moves hit the market when the total was at 9, revealing exactly where wiseguys think this over/under has value.

Sharp Angle: Orioles-Yankees Under (9 to 8.5)

St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers

2:10 p.m. ET

The Cardinals are drawing the slight majority of moneyline tickets (58%), but are attracting an overwhelming 74% of dollars wagered on this matchup. And not only has this money been one-sided, it's also of the sharp variety.

Wiseguys steamed the Cards at +102, explaining why St. Louis has flipped from a plus-money underdog to a short favorite across the market.

Sharp Angle: Cardinals (+104 to -107)

Colorado Rockies at Miami Marlins

4:10 p.m. ET

Sharps seem to have found contrarian value with the Marlins, who are home underdogs against the Rockies.

After opening at +131, Miami has dropped to +125 despite attracting just 25% of tickets and 30% of dollars wagered on the moneyline.

This line movement is due to two instances of smart money jumping on the Marlins, helping to clarify why this line has moved in the opposite direction of the betting percentages.

Sharp Angle: Marlins (+131 to +125)
