Pro MLB Picks: How Sharps Are Betting Wednesday Night’s Games

Wednesday’s MLB slate has been no stranger to activity from sharp bettors.
Four teams — all of which have been underdogs — have drawn action from the pros, and that’s caused some significant market readjustments.
Let’s take a look.
Red Sox vs. Rays
6:40 p.m. ET | Martin Perez vs. Ryan Yarbrough
There’s not a whole lot of optimism surrounding the Red Sox this season, and that’s especially the case on nights when their starting pitcher isn’t named Eovaldi.
Tonight is confirming that to be the case, as even at plus-money against the Rays, the Sox are just barely breaking the quarter-mark with a 26% backing.
But while they haven’t been popular among most bettors, they have been popular among the ones that matter to sportsbooks — also known as the sharps.
Four Sports Insights Bet Signals — which track and record instances of line moves caused by sharp action — have hit the Red Sox, most recently at +131. As a result, PointsBet — which opened this line at +145 — now lists Boston at +125.
Sharp angle: Red Sox (moved from +145 to +125)
Brewers vs. White Sox
8:10 p.m. ET | Adrian Houser vs. Dallas Keuchel
The Brewers aren’t quite the turn-off that the Red Sox have become, but they are similarly seeing this line move in their direction despite attracting a minority backing.
The 46% of Brewers bettors have been enough to move Milwaukee from +125 to even-money at PointsBet, once again hinting at pro action on the underdog.
Sure enough, another four SI Bet Signals have been triggered on the Brewers, including one at +115, which helped push the market to its current consensus.
Sharp angle: Brewers (moved from +125 to +100)
Astros vs. Diamondbacks
9:10 p.m. ET | Lance McCullers Jr. vs. Robbie Ray
Keeping with the theme so far, Arizona has been yet another unpopular underdog that’s seen its line fall toward a pick’em.
Just 30% of bets have landed on the D-backs, but with SI’s Bet Signals revealing sharp action at +145, +136 and +134, their line has come down to +120 at PointsBet.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners
9:40 p.m. ET | Julio Teheran vs. Marco Gonzales
The Mariners break the streak of unpopular underdogs on today’s sharp card, though I certainly wouldn’t label them a popular pick, either.
They’re getting just over half the moneyline tickets in this game (51%), but based on the line movement you’d expect they were getting almost all of them.
Behind the sharp action evidenced by another five SI Bet Signals, they’ve fallen from +135 down to +105, while the Angels have dropped from -160 to -125.
