The Highlights

  • Following the Bryan Colangelo Twitter scandal, Bovada has posted odds on whether or not he will keep his job.
  • He is -450 to get fired by the first game of the 2018-19 season and +275 to get off scot-free.

It’s been a whirlwind couple of days for NBA Twitter and Philadelphia. The NBA playoffs had just been getting good, with two exciting Game 7s to set the stage for the NBA Finals. However, in a very 2018-esque news story, we’ve come to learn that 76ers general manager Bryan Colangelo has allegedly been dissing his players, coaching staff and ex-GM Sam Hinkie using burner accounts on Twitter.

Bryan Mears broke this story down in full yesterday and even offered fake props on when Colangelo would get fired.

Well, it looks like Bovada followed our lead and created real odds you can bet on for this crazy story.

Will Bryan Colangelo be the President of Basketball Operations for the Philadelphia 76ers for game 1 of the 2018-19 season:

  • Yes: +275
  • No: -450

The team has already launched an internal investigation and could can the incognito tweeter within the week. Mears set the “How many days until he is fired” fictional O/U at 5.5, believing that a quick decision is definitely a possibility.

These odds have plenty of juice built in, but the implied probability for “yes” is 26.7% and “no” is 81.8%.

For this prop to hit, the duration of the entire offseason is in play. I expect there to be a good deal of bettors putting down cash on “no” at this price considering the evidence at hand. Perhaps the most impressive part of this story is the sleuthing abilities of the NBA Twittersphere. Their detective skills have linked Colangelo’s wife’s phone number to a number of the burner accounts. Colangelo himself admits to having one of the five burners discovered, but perhaps the Mrs. is out to get him in some sort of odd anonymous revenge plot.

Whatever the case may be, it is going to be awkward if he is not fired. Can’t imagine what those team meetings will be like.
