NBA Futures Odds

NBA Futures Betting

An NBA "futures" bet is a wager on an event where the outcome will be determined much later in a given NBA season--beyond just the current day or week. Popular NBA futures center around results like betting on a team to make the playoffs, win their respective division and/or conference, or to win the NBA Finals. Other common NBA futures bets include correctly picking individual players to receive accolades like the NBA Most Valuable Player award and NBA Rookie of the Year. If the selected team or player wins the event on which the wager was placed, the bettor wins their bet.

Understanding NBA Futures Odds and Payouts

Futures odds are associated with bigger payouts since the outcomes are much more difficult to predict than a single game bet. As such a wide range of odds from anything like +250 to +1100 are not uncommon. Due to the inherently difficult nature of futures betting, bettors can expect “plus-money” options at the beginning of a season, even when betting on favorites. Futures are available across the entire season with changing odds based on team performance.

The biggest spectacle each NBA season, and its most popular futures event, is the NBA Finals. The Golden State Warriors sit atop the NBA once again after knocking off the Boston Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals. The offseason, as always, has seen some roster shakeups throughout the league. Will anybody out of the Western Conference be able to take down the reigning champions, or will it be up to the East to dethrone the Warriors in the 2023 Finals? 2022-23 NBA Regular Season Win Totals Odds

Every team comes into the start of the regular season with the goal of winning the NBA Championship. In order to do that, though, they must first win enough games to make the playoffs. This is where NBA win totals odds come into play for futures bettors. Oddsmakers set a line for each team on the number of games they are predicted to win. Bettors are given the option to either bet over/under that predicted win total. Team win totals and their associated moneylines are updated throughout the season. Are you ready to make your bet?

2022-23 NBA Playoff Odds

With the expansion of the playoff field in 2021, thanks to the new play-in tournament format, 10 NBA teams from each conference now have the chance to compete for a championship. The addition of the play-in tournament offers bettors more options at selecting which teams will make the playoffs. Take a look at the current NBA playoff odds and pick your favorites to advance to the postseason.

The Boston Celtics went on one of the most historic runs in NBA history in the second half of the 2021-22 season to claim the Eastern Conference Championship. They are the clear favorites to repeat in the East at the start of the season, but they'll have a hard road with a stacked Atlantic Division nipping at their heels. Check out the latest NBA Eastern Conference Futures Odds to help you decide who will be the "Beasts of the East" in 2022-23.

The Boston Celtics shocked the NBA world by knocking off the Nets and 76ers to claim the Atlantic Division Title in 2022. They won't be sneaking up on anybody this year, though, as they are the presumptive favorites. Will Philly or Brooklyn be able to do anything about it?

Milwaukee has enjoyed sustained success in the Central Division for several years now. The Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers have made some big offseason moves to try to knock the Bucks from their perch in 2022-23. Let's see how Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks squad responds to these newly loaded rosters.

The Miami Heat reclaimed their supremacy in the Southeast Division in 2022, winning it by 10 games. Miami is a heavy favorite to repeat in the Southeast, but the likes of Atlanta and Charlotte hope to make that a difficult task. Young and developing rosters look to take the next step to challenge the authority of the Heat.

The Utah Jazz eked out a Northwest Division Title in 2022 over the Denver Nuggets by a single game. The Jazz, though, have made some blockbuster trades in the offseason that frankly have many people wondering if they'll be able to compete in 2022-23. The team lost some of its most productive players in Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, and Bojan Bogdonavich. As a result, they've tumbled down the odds board for repeating as Northwest Division champions.

See who could take over from the Jazz with the latest NBA Northwest Division Odds.

The Phoenix Suns finished the 2022 season comfortably atop the Pacific Division. Despite their 11-game advantage over the Warriors in the regular season divisional battle, the Suns could not find sustained playoff success. The Pacific Division looks to potentially be the most competitive in the NBA this season. With a healthy Clippers team back in the mix, there are 3-4 legitimate title contenders in the Pacific.

Pacific Division Futures odds are tight and could arguably be the toughest Division to call in 2022.

NBA fans were treated to an amazing title race in the Southwest last year between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Dallas Mavericks. Ultimately, it was the Grizzlies who came out on top, and they look to do so again in 2022-23. Oddsmakers expect this to be another nail biting competition between these two franchises, and we can't wait to see it play out!

The current NBA Southwest Futures Odds have the Grizzlies as favorites, but stay tuned to keep track of where oddsmakers see things going as the season progresses.

    NBA MVP Odds

There is only one player that can claim the NBA’s highest individual honor each regular season: the NBA Most Valuable Player. The MVP award is voted on by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters within the United States and Canada. While the panel will naturally consider a player’s individual stats such as points, rebounds, assists, and more, they will put those numbers into the context of how a player's team performs over the course of the season to help determine their MVP votes. See how the NBA MVP Odds ebb and flow as the season progresses and choose the player that you think will hoist the trophy this season.

The only award that is awarded to a new player 100 percent of the time. Rookies not only compete to make a name for themselves against the 60+ other fresh faced newcomers to the league, but they also compete with one another to be named the top of their draft class. NBA Rookie of The Year Odds tend to favor some of the first few picks in the draft, but history tells us that anyone could walk away with this coveted honor.

    Betting on NBA Futures

After a long regular season and the grueling NBA Playoffs, only two teams remain to face-off in the NBA Finals. Once the Finals match-up is set, oddsmakers will set what is known as American Odds on the championship series. At this point, these are no longer future odds as the main event is near. For an event this major, the odds have a name: the NBA Finals Odds Series Price, using American Odds. Below is an example of the American Odds set for the 2021 NBA Finals:

    • Bucks logo Milwaukee Bucks -140 (Bet $100; win $40 on the Bucks)
    • Suns logoPhoenix Suns +200 (Bet $100; win $200 on the Suns)

For additional resources, check out our betting calculators and our guide for betting on basketball. But here are the fast facts on odd types and how to bet on the NBA Finals.

    What are American Odds?

American Odds are the default odds used by U.S. sportsbooks. The odds are based on winning $100 for a given bet on either the Favorite or the Underdog.  A Favorite will have a minus (-) sign next to the odds and represents the money you need to risk to win $100. An Underdog will have a plus (+) sign in front and represents the money you can win for every $100 risked. So, if you're betting on the Bucks at -140 against the Suns, that means Milwaukee is a slight favorite. You need to risk $140 to win $100 on the Bucks. If they win, you profit $100 and get your original $140 back.

    What are Decimal Odds?

Beyond the U.S., most of the world uses Decimal Odds, in part because it’s easier to convert them to implied probabilities. Decimal odds represent the amount you win for every $1 wagered. The number represents the total return, not just the profit (this is different from American and fractional odds).

     What are Fractional Odds?

Fractional Odds are used primarily in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Few bettors use fractional odds for betting sports other than horse racing, because the conversions to understand a return are challenging. To calculate winnings on fractional odds, multiply your bet by the top number (the numerator), then divide the result by the bottom number (the denominator).
