Sharps, Squares in Agreement on Hornets-Cavs Spread, Over/Under

The Cleveland Cavaliers are struggling. It turns out that LeBron James is quite valuable … who knew? The Cavs are 1-11 to start the season, yet have managed a 6-6 against-the-spread (ATS) record.

Tonight, they host the Charlotte Hornets, who are 7-6 and boast a 9-4 ATS record — second best in the NBA.

Despite being at home, the Cavs are still 8.5-point underdogs.

With only three games on the NBA slate tonight, both sharp and public bettors are playing the spread and over/under in this matchup.

Though there was a little bump of sharp activity on the Cavs overnight, there have been three separate steam moves triggered on the Hornets this morning, according to Sports Insights' Bet Signals.

The line opened at -6.5 and can now be found at -8.5/-9 across the market.

Nearly 80% of the bettors are taking Charlotte, but most folks surely didn't get the good numbers of -6.5 or -7.

Late buy back at Cavs +9 certainly isn't out of the question given how much the line has moved.

The total is also moving quite a bit. Though the percentages aren't as lopsided, 58% of bettors are on the under — which is rather rare.

Dating back to 2005, unders have received the majority of bets just 11.6% of the time. Meanwhile, overs have received 70% of bets or more nearly 35% of the time.

Moreover, the under is getting more than 70% of the cash. Fat stacks coming in on the under.

Last night, two bet signals came in on the over and the total rose from 218.5 to 219.5.

Today, however, those sharp bets have all come in on the under. Two steam moves were triggered at under 219 and 218 and since then, the over/under has dropped all the way to 214.5.

Combined, these teams have gone under in 14 of 25 games, according to Bet Labs.
