- The Nets and Celtics face off tonight (7:30 p.m. ET, YES), but Boston will be without its star point guard Kyrie Irving due to a hip injury.
- We look at how Irving's absence is affecting both the spread and over/under for this matchup.
On Monday afternoon, a surprising NBA injury hit the wire when it was announced that Kyrie Irving would be out against the Nets. Irving, who has scored more than 30 points in three of his past four games, will be sidelined with a hip injury.
As a result, Nets-Celtics odds are on the move.
Before the news, the Celtics had moved from -10 to -11 behind 48% of bets and 57% of dollars. Immediately following the news, the C’s dropped to -8.5, though the line has since moved to -9.
Before the season began, oddsmakers believed Kyrie was worth between 2-3 points to the spread depending on the matchup and situation. Considering Boston’s talent advantage over Brooklyn, it appears that Irving’s value will fall toward the lower end of that range.
The over/under has also taken a hit without his high-scoring potential in the lineup. Early sharp action had actually hit the over, but the total is now down to 220 after peaking at 223.5.
