The Bucks’ Game 1 loss was not a huge shock to anyone prepared for the series (which may or may not include Mike Budenholzer). The Heat are built to give the Bucks trouble, and Bud’s teams do not perform well in Game 1s. Game 2 is not a must-win game without home court advantage, but the Bucks need this one either way.

Make no mistake about it, the Bucks are the better team here. They were best in the East all season, and don’t forget how they responded after losing Game 1 to the Orlando Magic. The Heat may present matchup problems, but the Bucks are still better in any game.

As for our Houston-OKC Game 7, I’m using the same logic. I just think the Rockets are better. Their starters have dominated the Thunder starters for much of the series, and Game 7 means more starter minutes than ever. Houston’s three wins this series have come by 13, 15, and 24 points; their losses were by 3, 4, and  12 points in overtime. The Rockets are better, both as a team and in this matchup.

This is the perfect opportunity for a 5-point teaser on both teams. I’m confident the Bucks and Rockets find a way to win tonight. I’m less confident that they’ll both cover.

Jimmy Butler and Chris Paul teams will fight to the dying breath in any game, and these teams have a way of making things close. With the teaser, I don’t need to worry about any spreads. Just win, baby.

THE PICK: Bucks -5 and Rockets -5.5 (5-point teaser)

All the evidence was telling me to bet the under in Nuggets-Jazz in Game 7, and I ignored all of it based on series trends. That was dumb. I’ll own that one. I’m not making the mistake again, though.

Game 7’s are tight, historically. A slight majority of tickets are on the under and the money is leaning that way as well (54%).The Rockets’ switch-all defense will make things tough, and in this situation the only shooter I really trust is Chris Paul.

I’m keeping it simple, stupid today and betting the under.

The Pick: Under 217.5 (-110)
