With just six games on on tap tonight, the Wednesday NBA schedule is a bit lighter than usual. Still, our experts are betting on two specific New York-based matchups:

  • 7:30 p.m. ET: Detroit Pistons at Brooklyn Nets
  • 7:30 p.m. ET: Memphis Grizzlies  at New York Knicks

See the bets they’re making below.

Odds as of Wednesday afternoon and via FanDuel, where Action Network users get a risk-free bet up to $500.

John Ewing: Pistons at Nets

  • Spread: Nets -7
  • Over/Under: 227
  • Time: 7:30 p.m. ET

The Nets-Pistons total opened 223.5. The line was quickly bet up to 227. Sharp action is responsible for the line movement.

At the time of writing, 57% of tickets are on the over, which accounts for more than 70% of dollars wagered on the total. When there is a larger percentage of money than tickets, indication of professional action, on a total it has been profitable to bet the over even after the line moves.

A $100 bettor following this system would have returned a profit of $5,082 since 2015.

Pros don’t always win but being on the same side as the sharps is a smart long term betting strategy.

The PICK: Over 227

Brandon Anderson: Grizzlies at Knicks

  • Spread: Grizzlies -3
  • Over/Under: 222
  • Time: 7:30 p.m. ET

Why are we still treating the Memphis Grizzlies like the team we expected them to be in October?

The Grizzlies have won 10 of their past 12 games. That includes wins over the Clippers, Rockets, Nuggets, and Spurs. Ja Morant is cruising to Rookie of the Year, and Brandon Clarke might be his closest competition while Jaren Jackson Jr., DeAnthony Melton, and Dillon Brooks have all taken big steps forward as well. We figured the Grizzlies would be fun, but they’re also pretty good.

The Knicks, on the other hand, are 13-35. As the immortal Dennis Green once said, “They are who we thought they were!” This is a bad team against a decent one and it’s a one-bucket line. A Grizz win gets them to .500. Giddy up.

The PICK: Grizzlies -2.5 (Line has since moved to -3)
