There are 12 games tonight with a lot of injuries and questionable players. We’ll analyze three key situations in this piece: the New Orleans Pelicans at Milwaukee Bucks, the Indiana Pacers at Toronto Raptors and the San Antonio Spurs at Orlando Magic.
Pelicans PF Julius Randle (ankle), PF Nikola Mirotic (ankle) are out.
Injury background: Mirotic will sit for the third straight game with an injured right ankle. Coach Alvin Gentry had previously stated that Mirotic will be sidelined until the team is positive he is 100% healthy. Randle missed the final minutes of Sunday’s game with a sprained ankle and will also sit out on Wednesday.
Tonight’s impact: Randle has been an absolute monster in the starting lineup, averaging 23.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per start this season. Ranking second on the team with a 27.3% usage rate, his absence will filter even more offensive possessions towards Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday.
There has yet to be a confirmed starter for Randle, and Davis stated that the logical step for the team was to play small with a thin frontcourt. It’s possible that E’Twaun Moore re-enters the starting lineup with Solomon Hill shifting to power forward, and Cheick Diallo and Darius Miller will step into extended minutes as well.
In the last meeting against the Bucks, Davis limited Giannis Antetokounmpo to just two made field goals in 37 possessions while guarding him. If there is any concern about his defensive role limiting his offensive upside, note that Davis has averaged 27.3 points and 10.2 rebounds against the Bucks in his career.
When Mirotic, Randle and Elfrid Payton (finger) have been off the court this season, Davis has averaged an absurd 2.13 DraftKings points per minute in those 95 minutes, combined with a 38.4% usage rate and +10.4% assist rate differential. With the plethora of value options, he’ll be a priority spend on DraftKings at $11,600.
While a trip to the locker room could cause #NBATwitter to explode due to his high ownership, Davis has actually returned to the court in all seven previous instances this season.
