Sportsbooks were quick to list a line for today’s Celtics-Grizzlies matchup. While the other six games didn’t see the odds board until the morning hours at most books, this one was ready for action around 3 p.m. ET yesterday.
Almost as quick to act as the oddsmakers, sharps were all over the early line, and as a result we’re seeing quite a different spread listed this morning.
Celtics vs. Grizzlies Sharp Betting Pick
This spread’s first appearance in the market came at Boston -5.5. That number didn’t last very long, however, making a quick move to -5, followed by another to -4.5 by the late afternoon. Overnight it continued to -4, and this morning was pushed once again to -3.5, and now sits at -3.
Why all the movement? It’s certainly not because bettors are flocking to play the Grizzlies (at least not the majority of bettors). Only 39% of tickets have landed on Memphis so far.
Instead, it’s because of the type of bettors that are among that 39%.
Per Sports Insights Bet Signals, there have been six waves of sharp action on the Grizzlies between 5:30 p.m. and 11 a.m. ET — two at +5.5, one two +4.5 and one at +4.
That, along with the 74% of money that’s hit Memphis, has convinced sportsbooks that their initial number was too high, even if it means giving the majority of their customers an easier cover.
It is worth noting that the spread seemed to reach a bottoming-out point this morning when it first reached +3. But following a readjustment back up to +3.5/4, sharps hit Memphis once again, sending the market right back to its current listing.
