Public bettors are hammering underdogs on a small Friday college basketball slate. Should you ride along, or back the favorites? Let’s dive in.

All betting data comes from our public betting page (ticket count is free, but money percentages are available only to EDGE subscribers). Betting trends are available for free in The Action Network app, while more advanced betting systems are available to Sports Insights subscribers via Bet Labs.

Most Public Bets

As of 3:30 p.m. ET. (Minimum 1,000 bets tracked)

  1. Kent State +4 (80%) at Akron
  2. Georgia State +1 (72%) at UL-Lafayette
  3. Sienna -2.5 (72%) at Manhattan
  4. UL-Monroe PK (67%) vs. Ga. Southern
  5. Princeton +8 (65%) at Yale

This section is usually filled with favorites, but the influx of public money on Friday night’s small slate has sided with a few favorites.

According to our data at Bet Labs, favorites that get less than 25% of bets are covering 54% of the time since 2005.

Biggest Betting Ticket/Money Discrepancies

We track both betting tickets on a given game and the percentage of money that’s been bet on each side. If there’s a big discrepancy, there’s likely some sharper, larger bets on the opposite side.

Here are the three biggest discrepancies for Thursday night as of 3:30 p.m. ET. This data will change as we get closer to tipoffs. (Minimum 1,000 bets):

Niagara (+3) at Marist

  • 7 p.m. ET
  • 45% of tickets, 84% of money
  • 39% difference
  • Line move: Niagara +4 to +3

Cornell (+3.5) at Dartmouth

  • 7 p.m. ET
  • 50% of tickets, 80% of money
  • 30% difference
  • Line move: Cornell +3 to +3.5

UL-Lafayette (-1) vs. Georgia State

  • 9 p.m. ET
  • 28% of tickets, 53% of money
  • 25% difference
  • Line move: ULL +2 to -1

Bet Labs Pro Trend

Over at Bet Labs, we’ve created historically profitable betting systems for every sport. Tonight, four games match a college basketball system as of 3:30 p.m. ET.

First Half Under With High Total

This system involves betting the under in the first half when the full-game total is high. Friday night, it matches four games:

  • Rider-Canisius
  • Iona-Quinnipiac
  • Georgia Southern-UL Monroe
  • Marist-Niagara

Sharp Money Indicators

Each day, we try to highlight one game from our sharp report page that has multiple indicators of sharp action.

Columbia is getting lots of love from sharp bettors, who drove the line down from +12 to +10.5 against Harvard.

We’ve tracked contrarian indicators and a steam move on Columbia to cause that 1.5-point swing on the spread.
