It was only a matter of time.
At least based on our model’s projections, today’s BC vs. Duke line has been a bit too high throughout the week, and on gameday morning, sharp bettors finally made their move.
Our new PRO Report feature lays it all out in one place.
Odds, report as of 10 a.m. ET.
Boston College vs. Duke Odds, PRO Report
Duke opened as a 6-point favorite in this ACC matchup, and other than a brief period on Tuesday, has held on to a 5.5- to 6-point edge throughout much of the week. But that’s changed significantly over the past half hour or so, as BC has been bet down to a consensus of just +3.5.
Until this morning, not a single Sports Insights Bet Signal — our tool for measuring sharp action in the PRO Report — had been triggered on this game. But around 9:30 a.m. ET today, a signal in the form of a steam move popped on the Eagles.
Steam refers to a sudden, drastic market move that comes as a result of heavy money hitting the same side of a bet all at once, and it’s one of the strongest indicators of professional action.
In this case, the move came at +5.5, and has led this line all the way to +3.5 — exactly where our model projected it (and hence why that indicator is no longer lit up on the PRO Report).
Sharp Action edge: Boston College
Another sign of professional action? Big bets. Of course, they can technically come from anyone, but since the pros do this for a living, they’re far more likely to be the heavy spenders over a large sample. For that reason, when you see a significant discrepancy between bets and money, you can use it as a hint toward the sharp side.
In this game, BC’s 48% backing has generated 74% of actual money.
Big Monday edge: Boston College
It’s not just sharps betting the Eagles, though. Three of our top college football experts have taken BC throughout the week.
You can follow them all in the Action App to get notifications immediately when they make their picks, so you don’t have to potentially settle for a worse line at kickoff.
