Mattress Mack Places Over $3 Million on TCU vs. Georgia

Mattress Mack is back for another encore.
The Houston furniture magnate who cleared $75 million when the Astros won the World Series has placed over $3 million in total wagers on TCU against Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.
Mack has placed $2.13 million on the TCU moneyline. He placed $500,000 at Caesars at a +400 price. At +370 at DraftKings, Mack placed a total of $1.5 million. At WynnBet, his odds are +380 at a $130,000 wager.
In all, he'll net about $8 million from those wagers if the Horned Frogs win their first title since 1938, when they ended the year at No. 1 after going 11-0.
Those odds are all down from their open at roughly +450 on New Year's Eve.
“I woke up and saw Georgia beat Ohio State and then saw the TCU moneyline was like +450 and thought that was crazy,” Mack told Action Network.
Mack — whose real name is Jim McIngvale — typically uses the winnings to pay off promotions he runs at his furniture stores, where customers receive refunds on purchases if the local team wins. This time around, he's giving customers two times their money back if they spend more than $3,000 on mattresses between now and gametime.
“If they knock down the door, we’ll bet more,” he said. “I think they have a legitimate shot to win.”
Mack also wagered an additional $1 million on TCU to cover a 13-point spread at a -110 vig.
Unlike the Astros, Mack waited until the end of the season to bet the Horned Frogs. He could have gotten 200/1 had he bet it before the season. Their opponents, Georgia, opened the season at 2/1 to repeat as champions.
Mack had wagered a total of $6.2 million on Alabama to win the 2022 national title game over Georgia at +115 and +120 odds. The Crimson Tide lost, giving up a five-point lead in the fourth quarter to hand the Bulldogs their first championship since 1980.
TCU is a public darling for Monday's contest, receiving roughly 93% of the money on their spread, according to the Action Network's proprietary tracking data. Much of the public sees the game's 13-point spread as too much after the Horned Frogs took down Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl as nine-point underdogs.
But despite the money on the purple, the line has only shortened a half point since its open at TCU +13.5.
