Winless ATS in the SEC? Ole Miss Looks to Avoid Gambling History in Egg Bowl

Ole Miss enters the Thursday night Egg Bowl against their in-state rival, Mississippi State, 0-7 against the spread when facing SEC opponents this season. The Rebels currently listed as an 13-point home underdog at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium against the Bulldogs.

According to our Bet Labs database, only four other teams have finished a season with zero conference wins against the spread, all losses and no pushes dating back to the 2005-06 season.

Entering the Egg Bowl, Ole Miss has failed to cover the spread by 10.5 points per game in SEC matchups this season. Its closest call at a cover came two weeks ago against Texas A&M.

As 13.5-point underdogs, Ole Miss led 14-7 and 21-14 in the first three quarters. The Rebels were inside the number for the first 58 minutes of the game before allowing a 46-yard touchdown down seven points with 1:39 left to lose the game by 14.

Dating back to the 1994-95 season, no SEC team has finished the season without a win and no pushes against the spread in conference play.

Ole Miss could join the 2010-11 Michigan Wolverines (coached by Rich Rodriguez with Denard Robinson and Tate Forcier at quarterback), and the 2008-09 Washington Huskies (coached by Tyrone Willingham with Ronnie Fouch and Jake Locker at quarterback), as the only three Power 5 teams to go winless against the spread in conference games.

If the Rebels close as a double-digit underdog at home, it would be the first time that has happened to them against anyone but Alabama since 2012, when they were a 12.5-point home dog against Texas A&M and Johnny Manziel (lost 30-27, but covered the spread).
