This season, underdogs have performed exceptionally well in the first two weeks of conference play across college football.

Just don’t tell that to Tuesday night MACtion bettors.

As reported by DraftKings, the three favorites on tonight’s MACtion card are drawing heavy action as of Tuesday morning. Buffalo, Ohio and Kent State have attracted 65%, 78% and 92%, respectively, of the against-the-spread (ATS) handle thus far.

The love for Ohio is not surprising, especially given the fact that Akron is coming off one of the worst seasons in the history of college football. The Zips finished 0-12 straight-up (SU) and 0-12 ATS. One game into their 2020 campaign, and Akron has already suffered through one of the largest blowouts of the college football season, a 58-13 loss to Western Michigan. These negative trends explain why Ohio is currently a 28-point favorite.

Kent State, one of the MAC’s premier offensive teams, eked out a 27-23 victory last week, failing to cover against Eastern Michigan by the hook. This week, they’re facing off against another MAC cellar dweller in Bowling Green and have been installed as a heavy favorite (-20.5, -1667 moneyline).

From 2012-15, the Falcons posted an impressive 36-19 record, rattling off 25 conference wins. That streak launched the careers of Dave Clawson (now at Wake Forest) and Dino Babers (Syracuse). But since those two coaches left for the ACC, Bowling Green has been in an uncontrolled nosedive. Since 2016, BGSU is 12-37 overall and 9-24 in MAC play. The Falcons’ 15-34 (30.6%) record against the spread is the second worst in all college football over that time span.

The prospect of a BGSU upset (+850) has enticed just a quarter of all bets placed thus far, but DraftKings is offering an Odds Boost for bettors looking to combine Ohio and Bowling Green on the moneyline (+859 → +950).

Finally, Buffalo returns to action after thumping Northern Illinois 49-30 in Dekalb, Ill., last week. The Bulls have been the anti-Bowling Green over the past three years. No team in the country has a higher winning percentage ATS (27-13, 67.5%) during that stretch and dating back to last year, Buffalo hasn’t made bettors sweat much thanks to their average margin of victory against the spread (+4.6, 20th). Currently, the Bulls have attracted 74% of all moneyline action but an astonishing 98% of the handle.

This is surprising given Miami’s performance as an underdog. The Redhawks are 8-4 ATS as an underdog since 2019 with six outright upsets. If the 9.5-point spread and -350 moneyline is too steep for you, DraftKings is offering an Odds Boost of +110 if you take Buffalo to score first and to win the game as a parlay.

DraftKings is also offering a 20%+ payout increase for any three-leg parlays placed on tonight’s action.
