UTEP Win Total Under 2.5 -145

There are two things to like about UTEP in 2018 — the Miners got new helmets and a new head coach. The list ends there.

Kansas State offensive coordinator Dana Dimel arrived in El Paso as the new head man, which garnered some positive reaction for a program that went 0-12 last season.

Dimel has a mammoth task in front of him, as he will attempt to transform one of the worst football programs in the FBS. And according to my power ratings, UTEP is actually the worst team in the nation after a season mired with multiple mid-season firings. Despite ranking 41st in returning production, UTEP still has plenty of questions at every offensive position.

Dimel brought in Mike Cox to serve as the new defensive coordinator. Cox, who previously spent time as linebackers coach at Kansas State, will move the defense from a 3-4 scheme to a 4-2-5. You can expect growing pains on that side of the ball.

With so many moving parts and roster questions, I have trouble finding a single victory on the schedule, so I will confidently bet UTEP under 2.5 (-145) wins.

One final nail in the "UTEP will be awful in 2018" coffin: The Miners are listed as +8 underdogs for their Sept. 1 home opener against FCS school Northern Arizona. If you're wondering if Northern Arizona is even a contender in the FCS, the answer is absolutely not. The Lumberjacks' odds to win the FCS national title sit at 125-1.

What else you need to know about UTEP

This one is for the trend players: In the rare case that UTEP actually wins a football game, look to bet the under the following week. The Miners are 13-2-1 to the under following their last 16 straight-up wins.
