- The play swung the $1 million first-place prize in DraftKings' Milly Maker contest, while also cashing a big parlay for one college student.
The most intriguing NFL game of Sunday was, hands down, the Philadelphia Eagles-Dallas Cowboys matchup.
We told you all the ways this game tortured bettors, but now we’re going to get a bit personal.
First up, is the story of a DraftKings player who went from winning $1 million to finishing up with $5,000, thanks to Amari Cooper’s freak touchdown. Then, we give you the story of a college student, who happened to cash in on that play.
The $995K DFS Swing
Before Cooper’s game-winning touchdown, one DFS player was sitting atop the DraftKings Milly Maker leaderboard with more than 233 fantasy points.
This user had a hell of a day, getting huge games from Ezekiel Elliott and Saquon Barkley, and setting himself apart from the pack by rostering Dolphins Kenny Stills (just 1.2% owned), who went off for 30.5 points against the Patriots.
But on the fateful Dak-to-Amari touchdown, the leader fell from first place ($1 million in winnings) down to 14th place ($5,000 in prize money).
Why the tumble?
The only Cowboys player the leader had was Zeke, while all 13 lineups that jumped ahead of him had Cooper rostered and roughly half of those had both Cooper and Prescott.
The 15-yard touchdown netted the eventual winner 13.1 points, catapulting him up to 244.30 points in total, 10.66 more than the player who held the top spot before that fateful play.
The contest was just for the main slate (none of the prime time games were included), so once the Eagles-Cowboys game ended, it was over.
The Improbable Parlays That Cashed

I am writing you to share the story of my crazy 8- and 5-team parlay wins that helped me turn $76 into $2,400 on Sunday.
Four of my five early games were Indy (+5), Baltimore (+7), Green Bay (-4), and Jets (+4), none of which were particularly scary. The fifth early game was the Saints (-9), who scored 25 unanswered to cover (they won by 14).
I felt very good going into the afternoon 5-for-5 in the 8-teamer and 3-for-3 in the 5-teamer. For the late games, I had SF (+4.5) in both, Dallas (-3) in both, and Oakland +11 in the 8-teamer.
The 49ers game was never in doubt of not covering, while the Raiders provided multiple brief scares (which resulted in me hedging $200 on Oakland in the second half).
My focus was almost all on Dallas, which was winning by six at half. With so much on line, I decided to hedge, taking the Eagles 2H spread at a pick’em for $500.
The second half was wild, going back and forth down the stretch and eventually to overtime. I needed a Cowboys TD to win the parlays. If Dallas won by three, I’d push the parlay and $2,400 worth of potential winnings would disappear.
After winning the toss, it seemed like Cowboys were going to work the ball down the field, run the clock out and kick a field goal.
Then Dak threw that pass that deflected up into the air and into the hands of Cooper, who ran in uncontested to the end zone.
This covered both my parlays — and my straight bet of $500 at -3.5 — and led to the best day of my betting career.
