- The Cincinnati Bengals placed Andy Dalton (thumb) on injured reserve on Monday, ending his season.
- With Dalton out, Jeff Driskel is set to start at QB on Sunday vs. the Broncos.
- After opening at -2.5 on Westgate's early line last week, the Bengals opened at +3.5 with Driskel set to start.
The Bengals’ once-promising season has officially kicked the bucket. On Monday, they announced that Andy Dalton would miss the remainder of the year with a thumb injury. In early October, their Super Bowl odds peaked at 20-1, but they can now be found at 1000-1.
With Dalton sidelined, 25-year-old Jeff Driskel will get the nod under center for the time being. The Louisiana Tech alum has never started a game, but got some action in Sunday’s game vs. Cleveland after Dalton departed.
Their game vs. the Broncos this week will certainly have a different look to it given the recent events.
Last week, Cincinnati opened as 2.5-point home favorites on Westgate’s lookahead lines. However, books are beginning to post the lines with Driskel set to start and Cincy has moved to a 3.5-point dog. The total opened at 42.

Is Dalton worth that many points to the spread?
No. Oddsmakers viewed Dalton as being worth 2-3 points to the spread before the season began, which would put this game somewhere around a pick ’em.
Also factoring in the move are Denver’s upset of Pittsburgh and Cincy’s ugly loss to the Browns. Even if Dalton hadn’t gotten hurt, this line already would have been trending towards a pick ’em.
From 4-1 and atop the NFC North to 5-6 with Jeff Driskel set to start. RIP Cincinnati Bengals 2018 season: September 9th 2018 – November 25th 2018.
