Weekend Moose Recap: Derrick Henry doesn’t care about your underdog bet

"Moose, moose and more moose. Maybe too many moose" are on their way, according to this article about the rapidly-growing moose population in North Dakota. I don't know about you, but I'm now petrified.

For those of you not familiar with the term "Moose," it has been used for years within the sports betting world to reference a bad beat. It originated within the old school gambling forums more than 15 years ago, and has stuck ever since.

With college football season now coming to an end, I will now highlight the five biggest "mooses" from each weekend across various sports from my perspective (I can't see everything). Let's get into the five worst beats of this past weekend.

5. Rangers/Hurricanes Under 6

A push has to be extra brutal to make it in the top five, and this game fits the mold.

On Friday night at the Garden, the Rangers led the Hurricanes 2-1 with under three minutes left in regulation. New York scored two empty net goals to extend their lead to 4-1 with one minute left. Carolina brought their goalie back in with the game now out of reach, but they were a man down due to a delay of game penalty. The Rangers added a power-play goal in the final minute to seal the 5-1 win, leaving under bettors in shock.

4. Sacramento Kings -1

Another push, this time in the Association, worthy of inclusion on the list.

All Kings -1 bettors needed was a free throw make from Bogdan Bogdanovic, an 83 percent shooter from the line. Instead, he missed, and then this happened …

3. Toledo Rockets

It's not a real moose list until you see the MACtion!

Toledo backers had to feel confident after the Rockets took a 38-0 lead late in the third quarter. Akron did cut the deficit to 38-14 early in the fourth quarter, but Toledo quickly answered to extend their lead to 45-14. Akron scored midway through the fourth, and then forced a punt to get the ball back with three minutes remaining trailing 45-21. Akron decided to put their third string quarterback in, who led the Zips on an 85-yard drive that ended with a touchdown to cut the lead to 45-28 in the final 20 seconds. Backdoor.

2. Houston Texans +7 

For the second time this year, Derrick Henry broke a long touchdown run to cover a game when the Titans were simply running out the clock. If you don't recall, Henry broke a run against the Colts on Monday Night Football to give Texans backers an improbable cover.

This week, he ran for a 75-yard touchdown on third and 5 with under a minute left, which put Houston outside of the number for the first time all game. Brutal, but you have to respect a guy who will always work for your cover.

1. North Carolina Tar Heels -10.5 

The only moose rarer than the albino moose is the triple moose.

UNC simply had to dribble out the clock. Instead, they turned it over, which led to a layup on the other end at the buzzer that caused the following bets to cash: Davidson +10.5, Davidson +4.5 2H and over 158.5. Triple moose.
