- Odds for Sunday's Detroit Lions-Miami Dolphins game (1 p.m. ET on FOX) opened Wednesday morning with the Lions listed as 2.5-point road favorites.
- This line suggests Ryan Tannehill (shoulder) will be able to play on Sunday.
Dolphins fans and bettors woke up to a surprise Sunday morning when news broke that quarterback Ryan Tannehill would be sidelined against the Bears due to a shoulder injury and that Brock Osweiler would be starting in his place.
They were even further surprised when the Dolphins somehow managed to beat the Bears.
Tannehill’s shoulder injury might not be a one-and-done situation, though. Reports are surfacing that he might miss this week and potentially even a couple more.
Before Tannehill’s injury, the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook posted early Week 7 lines with Detroit as a 2-point favorite against Miami.
Considering Tannehill’s value to the spread of 2-3 points, we can expect the Lions to be somewhere in the vicinity of 5-point favorites if he can’t go this week.
On the latest “The Favorites” podcast with Chad Millman and Bob Scucci, Scooch said that Detroit would be closer to -5.5 or -6.
However, lines were posted at about 11 a.m. ET Wednesday with the Lions listed as 2.5-point favorites.
This suggests that oddsmakers believe Tannehill will play, as there’s no way Osweiler impressed enough in just one game to move the projected line through the key number of three.
If you’re confident Tannehill won’t start, betting Detroit now is a smart play.
