The NFL Draft has become a beloved betting niche due to the sheer chaos that comes with wagering on an "information-based" event. It takes very little to move the lines — looking at you, Will Levis Reddit Guy — and the books don't know any more than you.

Because it's a different type of betting event, it's not offered in every legal state. And some states have limited offerings or unique rules, particularly around when you can place bets.

New York for example is notoriously strict around betting on anything that can't be found in a boxscore. In Iowa and Nevada, NFL Draft betting closed at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Of course, if your state doesn't have any legal online betting, it won't have the NFL Draft. So we've excluded states like Texas, California and Florida from these lists.

Here is where the NFL Draft is offered at FanDuel and DraftKings. If I got anything wrong, hit me up on Twitter and let me know.

Online States That Don't Allow NFL Draft Betting

  • Connecticut
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • Virginia

Pennsylvania defines a sporting event as follows, and doesn't consider the NFL Draft a sporting event:

"The business of accepting wagers on sporting events or on the individual performance statistics of athletes in a sporting event or combination of sporting events by any system or method of wagering, including over the Internet through websites and mobile applications."

State-By-State Breakdown

Arizona

In Arizona, you have until 8 p.m. ET on Thursday to place your bets. Then all markets will close.

Before then, Arizona has a pretty complete list of draft props at FanDuel, including player selected at each pick.

Colorado

Colorado has a full list of draft props and no time restrictions.

Iowa

Unfortunately, NFL Draft betting in Iowa is already closed. All markets must lock 24 hours before the draft begins.

Illinois

Illinois has a full list of draft props and no time restrictions.

Indiana

Indiana has a full list of draft props and no time restrictions.

Kansas

Kansas is missing a lot of player-specific props, like a player to get drafted over or under a certain draft spot. However, you can bet on a specific player to go No. 1 or No. 2 overall, for example.

Louisiana

Louisiana has a full list of draft props and no time restrictions.

Maryland

Maryland has a full list of draft props and no time restrictions.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts modeled its NFL Draft rules after Michigan, which has a full menu but some time restrictions. Massachusetts Sports Wagering Division Manager Sterl Carpenter told the Massachusetts Gaming Commission this week that they want to prevent wagers on leaked info.

There are three main restrictions — any pre-draft offering that could be impacted during any round must be made before the draft, any round-specific offering (like whether a player will be drafted in Round 3) must be made prior to that round. And any specific pick bet must be made two picks prior — so if you're betting Will Levis to go No. 5 overall during the draft, you must make that bet prior to pick No. 3 being announced.

Here is the language straight from the Mass. Sports Wagering Catalog:

  • "Pre-draft offerings that pertain to the entire draft must be made and accepted prior to the first pick/selection in the draft. For example, a wager on the number of players to be drafted from school X in the entire draft must be made before the first pick/selection in the draft.
  • Round-specific offerings that pertain to one or more specific rounds must be made and accepted prior to the first pick/selection of the earliest round included in the offering. For example, a wager on whether player X will be drafted in the second round must be made prior to the first pick/selection of the second round. A wager on whether player Y will be drafted in the third or fourth round must be made prior to the first pick/selection of the third round.
  • Pick-specific or selection-specific offerings must be made and accepted prior to the announcement of the pick/selection that is two picks/selections before the relevant pick/selection. For example, a wager on whether pick/selection #25 of the draft will be position X or player Y must be made prior to the announcement of pick/selection #23."

Michigan

In previous years, Michigan had been more restrictive like Iowa. But Michigan bettors now have a little bit more freedom.

The rules are pretty much identical to what we just outlined in Massachusetts. It shouldn't affect your betting all that much.

New Jersey

Like most things in sports betting, New Jersey has no time restrictions and a full menu of props.

New Hampshire

New Hampshire only has one sportsbook, DraftKings, which is offering NFL betting.

Nevada

Nevada is far more restrictive around props than states like New Jersey. Like Iowa, betting must stop 24 hours before the Draft begins.

Ohio

Ohio approved NFL Draft betting two weeks ago, but with a few weird restrictions.

For example, you can't bet on who will be the No. 1 or No. 2 overall pick, but you can bet on who will be pick No. 3 (all the way through No. 10). There are some other props not on the board in Ohio, like which position a particular team will draft with their first pick.

Ohio sports bettors will have a bevy of opportunities to bet on the upcoming NFL draft, as the Ohio Casino
Control Commission has approved a number of new betting markets. These include specific bets on what pick an athlete will be selected (excluding the 1st/2nd overall pick). pic.twitter.com/mg5iac9Zdq

Tennessee

West Virginia

Wyoming

Wyoming has a full list of draft props and no time restrictions.
