Dec 04, 2018 1:45 PM EST
  • The Philadelphia Eagles' win over the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football kept their hopes alive in the NFC playoff race.
  • Check out the updated standings for the AFC and NFC below, along with each team's odds to make the playoffs, win their division, get a first-round bye and secure the No. 1 seed, according to our simulations.

The NFL playoff race is heating up with four weeks remaining in the regular season.

Let’s take a look at the updated bracket, along with each team’s odds of making the dance, winning their division, getting a first-round bye and securing the No. 1 overall seed.

Standings and projections current as of Tuesday morning.

NFL Playoff Picture, Odds

Teams are ordered by the current playoff standings. Projections below are from our Bet Labs simulations, which run the each team’s remaining schedule 10,000 times.

AFC Playoff Picture, Projections

The race for the AFC’s No. 1 seed is heating up. The Chiefs (49.4%) and Patriots (32.6%) get home-field throughout the playoffs 82% of the time, with the Chargers (9.7%) and Texans (8.2%) having an outside shot.

The Ravens’ road win against the Falcons in Week 13 was huge for their playoff chances. They now make it in nearly two-thirds of our simulations.

The Dolphins currently hold down the 7-seed, but their rough remaining schedule (vs. Patriots, at Minnesota coming up) makes it unlikely (3.5%) they’ll make the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

The Broncos’ next three games come against teams that are a combined 8-27-1, giving them an outside chance (15.4%) to jump from the No. 8 seed into the wild card. But a Week 17 date against the 9-3 Chargers looms large.

NFC Playoff Picture, Odds

The Rams hold a one-game lead over the Saints, but if LA slips up, New Orleans owns the tiebreaker after winning, 45-35, back in Week 9. The Rams get the No. 1 seed 69.8% of the time, while the Saints get it in 30.2% of sims.

Carolina is the only team with a chance to get a first-round bye — and it’s just a 0.1% chance.

The Eagles’ win over the Redskins on Monday Night Football moved them from the No. 9 seed in the NFC to No. 8 and improved their playoff chances to 22.7%.

Washington still has a 14.2% chance to make the playoffs, but given their uncertainty at quarterback — third-stringer Mark Sanchez is the tentative starter after Alex Smith and Colt McCoy went down in back-to-back weeks.

Washington’s downfall benefits the Vikings the most. Minnesota lost to the Patriots in Week 13, but it moved up to the 6-seed after Washington’s loss.

The Vikings make the dance in more than three-fourths of our simulations, in part because they’re not out of the NFC North race yet (35.9% chance).
