Rovell: DraftKings Takes $195K Bet on Monday Night Football Game

Monday update, 4:54 p.m. ET: DraftKings just took its biggest bet on tonight's Browns-Jets Monday Night Football game. One New Jersey bettor wagered $195,000 on Cleveland to beat the Jets straight-up. The bet, which was placed at -295 odds via DraftKings' mobile app, would net this bettor $66,300.

Monday update, 12:20 p.m. ET: One bettor at CG Technology has a massive amount of money riding on Monday night's Browns-Jets game. This bettor needs the Browns to cover as 6.5-point favorites to close out an 8-team parlay that would net roughly $74,000 on a $424 wager. The other bets included in his parlay, all of which have already won:

• Rams -2
• Rams-Saints Under 52
• Broncos +2.5
• Bears-Broncos Under 41
• Falcons +1
• Eagles-Falcons Under 52.5
• Chiefs-Raiders 53

Week 2 is all about overreactions. Teams that struggled in Week 1 are toast. Teams that looked good are on their way to the Super Bowl. At least that's how people bet.

Recency bias is creating plenty of interesting themes in the market on Sunday, as plenty of games are seeing unbalanced action.

One of them, of course, is the expected blowout between the Patriots and Dolphins in Miami. We spoke to a few bookmakers early in the week about how the usual "Patriots money" hadn't showed up yet, but that has changed as the sportsbooks are now reporting they need the Dolphins.

We'll keep track of the big moves in the marketplace all day long.

• 7:25 p.m. ET: A bettor with PointsBet lost $40,000 on Sunday after he was on the wrong side of the Chiefs-Raiders over/under, as he wagered $2,500 per point on Over 54. This is called Points Betting, and part of how the New Jersey book tries to differentiate itself from other operators. In this instance, if the total points scored eclipsed 54, the bettor would have won $2,500 per point above that total. But that did not happen: The Chiefs and Raiders combined to score just 38 points, coming up 16 points shy of the total and losing $40,000 (16 x $2,500).
• 7:15 p.m. ET: Just got word from the Ocean Resort Casino in New Jersey that a customer cashed a $150,000 wager on the Colts +3. The bet was placed at EVEN money, meaning when Indy beat the Titans, 19-17, this bettor won exactly $150K. Here's the winning ticket (if you notice the timestamp at the bottom, the bet was placed less than 10 minutes prior to kickoff):

• 12:55 p.m. ET: DraftKings took a $52,000 wager on Detroit +1.5 minutes before kick
• 12:45 p.m. ET: William Hill's sportsbook in Reno just took a $20,000 bet on the Patriots to beat the Dolphins straight-up. It would net $833.25.
• 12:32 p.m. ET: DraftKings just took a $50,000 bet on the Colts as a 3-point underdog.
• 12:25 p.m. ET: Three underdogs are getting the majority of the money at the more than 100 William Hill sportsbooks. The 49ers +1 (57%), the Giants +1.5 (58%) and the Jaguars +7.5 (70%).
• 12:20 p.m. ET: DraftKings just got a $40,000 parlay that would payout $33,000. The bettor needs all of the following wagers to hit to win: Ravens moneyline over Cardinals, Texans moneyline over Jaguars, Chiefs moneyline over Raiders and Patriots -5.5 over Dolphins.
• 12:15 p.m. ET: A quick money percentage breakdown on the Patriots (-18-18.5) as kickoff nears … PointsBet: 36%; DraftKings: 57%; SugarHouse: 75%; SuperBook: 92%; William Hill: 61%.
• 11:55 a.m. ET: Last week, we told you about a Ravens bettor who won $600,000 by betting the Ravens (-6) at $30,000 a point on PointsBet. That bettor could have actually won more, Baltimore won by 49 points, but he put a stop win/loss on $600,000. The big PointsBet this week comes from a punter who staked $2,500 per point on the Over (53) in the Chiefs-Raiders game. The bettor would win $2,500 if the game lands on 54, $5,000 if it hits 55 and so on. That obviously works both ways, so if the game ends on 50, the bettor would lose $7,500. This bettor put no stop-loss on this wager and can win or lose up to $100,000 — the max Win/Loss is 40x your stake — depending on how many points Kansas City and Oakland put up. For the player to win the $100,000 the Chiefs and Raiders would need to put up 93 points. And if they only combine for 13 points, it will be a $100k loss.
• 11:18 a.m. ET: The biggest bets so far this week at CG Technology: T-1. Patriots (-18) $55,000; T-1. 49ers (PK) $55,000; 3. Patriots (-19) $30,000; T-4. Jaguars (+7.5) $20,000; T-4. Steelers (-3.5) $20,000.
• 10:15 a.m. ET: On the surface it looks like Colts at Titans (-3) would be one of the hardest games to call today. The Andrew Luck-less Colts hung in there against the Chargers in Week 1 while Tennessee hung 43 points on the hyped-up Browns. PointsBet reported they took a $110,000 bet on the Titans this morning and DraftKings says that 95% of the money for this game is on Indianapolis.
• 10:03 a.m. ET:PointsBet took a $130,000 bet on the Bills moneyline (-131). Buffalo is a 2-point road favorite against the Giants.
• 10 a.m. ET: PointsBet needs the Broncos (+2.5) against the Bears more than any other result today. Earlier this week, the sportsbook took a $130,000 bet on the Bears and there's minimal public interest on the Broncos.
• 9:40 a.m. ET: The biggest need for bookmakers today will be the Miami Dolphins. Yes, a historically high spread for a road favorite (in a divisional game, no less) has done little to stop the public from betting on Bill Belichick's men. The biggest bet we heard about early in the week was a $55,000 wager on the Patriots (-18) at Cantor Gaming and the Westgate SuperBook's Jeff Sherman says the Patriots pain is just in the aggregate as they took plenty of money on New England at -17.5, -18 and -18.5.
• 9:35 a.m. ET: In our first update, we highlighted the unbalanced action in two of the afternoon games, but the most lopsided game at the moment is Cowboys (-5.5) at Redskins. Dallas looked terrific in Week 1 and, even though Washington covered against the Eagles, all bettors see is the 0-1 record. At the time of writing America's Team is attracting 79% of the bets against their divisional rival.
• 9:20 a.m. ET: There are 10 games in the 1 p.m. ET window, but it's a pair of later matchups that are attracting the most action — at least in terms of total tickets. According to our data, the current leader in the clubhouse is the Bears (-2) at Broncos game, where bettors are happy to take the road favorite on long rest after seeing Denver struggle against the Raiders on Monday Night Football. The action is also lopsided in the AFC West showdown between the Chiefs and Raiders. At the time of writing, Kansas City is getting 72% of the tickets, but you could probably have guessed which side the public is on in that one.
