NHL bet du jour: Flames at Ducks
Monday: Flames +110
Calgary +110 at Anaheim
Much will be made of Calgary's unfathomable losing streak in Anaheim where they have dropped 29 consecutive games, but if there were ever a time for the Flames to douse the Ducks, it is tonight. Not only have the Flames dropped 29 consecutive visits to the Pond, but they were also swept by the Ducks in the playoffs last year. There is no shortage of motivation here. New acquisition Mike Smith should be up to the challenge against a watered-down Ducks lineup. After being blanked on opening night, the Flames turned around a 3-1 deficit Saturday night to wallop the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 — a massive confidence builder.
The Ducks have done well to pick up at least a point in their first two games, but a rash of injuries across the team could be too much to overcome. Both Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry are questionable, while forwards Patrick Eaves and Ryan Kesler are out indefinitely. On defense, the underrated Hampus Lindholm and power-play weapon Sami Vatanen are also out indefinitely.
Even though the Flames were swept in the playoffs last season, the first three games of the series were decided by a single goal. Calgary is catching Anaheim at the right time, and the +117 price tag of the Flames seems quite valuable given the matchup and motivational edge tonight at the Honda Center.
Fair Odds: Calgary +100
