  • The 2019 Women's World Cup starts Friday, June 7th in France and there are three co-favorites at +650 odds to be top goalscorer: USA's Alex Morgan, France's Eugenie Le Sommer and Australia's Sam Kerr.
  • I'm skipping over the top favorites and targeting two players apiece on USA and Netherlands including Dutch striker Lieke Martens at +1400 odds.

Betting on the top goalscorer at the 2019 Women's World Cup isn't widely popular, but it's worth taking a look at the odds.

In 2015, USA's Carli Llyod and Germany's Celia Sasic both finished with six total goals, tied for most in the tournament.

2019 Women's World Cup Top Goalscorer Odds

At the 2019 World Cup, three players are tied for the best odds at +650: USA's Alex Morgan, France's Eugenie Le Sommer and Australia's Sam Kerr.

Morgan has been the most popular U.S. soccer player since arriving on the scene in 2010. She's one of three co-favorites to score the most goals at the World Cup. She should have plenty of matches to do it as the USA plays Thailand, Chile and Sweden in the group stage and should progress with relative ease. Morgan has scored 101 goals in 163 appearances for the senior national team.

Le Sommer has scored 74 goals for the French national team and 163 for club Lyon, an incredible rate of 0.71 per game. France are one of the favorites to lift the trophy and should make a deep tournament run, meaning Le Sommer will be one to watch the entire summer.

Kerr's career isn't as well-known but she's racked up double-digit goals for five different clubs (Sydney FC, Western New York, Perth Glory, Sky Blue FC and Chicago Red Stars). She's also got 31 goals in 76 senior national team appearances and The Matildas are a sleeper pick to make a big run at the World Cup.

Brazil's Marta is arguably the greatest women's footballer in history and has won the World Player of the Year six different times. However, the 33-year old is a bit past her prime at this point and likely won't contend for top goalscorer, even if the Brazilians progress to the knockout rounds.

I've already backed USA and Netherlands to win the Women's World Cup, so naturally I'm looking toward players on those two teams to be top goalscorer. My top pick is Netherlands and Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema at +900 but I'm also keen on the Netherlands' Lieke Martens (+1400) and USA's Megan Rapinoe (+1000) and Rose Lavelle (no odds listed).

Unfortunately odds aren't available for many players, though sportsbooks usually take requests and will then place odds on them.
