Kicking off Monday’s action in the World Cup, Cameroon battle Serbia in a game between two Group G countries looking for their first points of the tournament.

The African side, which has lost eight straight at the World Cup, opened their competition with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Switzerland.

Meanwhile, the Serbs were blanked by group favorites Brazil in a match where they failed to register a shot on target.

Neither nation has had great success in the global tournament in recent years, which should give us two teams pushing for a much-needed result.

Cameroon Need Attacking Players to Show Up

If Cameroon are going to make any noise in this group, it will have to come from the attacking front three that all play in major European leagues, led by striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

The Bayern Munich forward already has 11 goals to go along with three assists for the club this season in all competitions, while also adding three more in World Cup Qualifying.

He was joined in attack by Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo and Lyon’s Karl Toko Ekambi in the loss to the Swiss, generating 0.74 xG and one big scoring chance, according to fotmob.com.

The African nation doesn’t have the same sort of star power in the midfield or defensive areas. So, their stars must lead from the front if they want to advance to the knockout rounds.

Serbia Looking to Get Going

While they may not have been expecting much from the game against Brazil, Serbia still would have expected to have posed more of a threat to the tournament favorites.

Manager Dragan Stojković’s team failed to create a big scoring chance and finished with just 0.18 xG. However, you have to wonder if a more aggressive lineup could come in this match.

Stojković may elect to start both of his dangerous strikers together in this game, combining Aleksandar Mitrović and Juventus’ Dušan Vlahović to really push for three points.

The key will be getting more crosses into the box for Mitrović to attack, with the Fulham striker coming into the tournament with nine goals in the Premier League this season. Serbia only had two successful crosses in the opener.

Cameroon vs. Serbia Prediction

When we look at the odds at bet365, the European nation is listed as the -134 favorite on the moneyline to go along with a total of 2.5 goals. I want to back the Serbs in this spot, but I want a better price than what is being offered.

So, my best bet is a Single Game Parlay, pairing a Serbia victory with the total falling under five goals at even money.

After the disappointing loss to the Samba Kings, I’m expecting this Serbian squad to show the class that they had in WCQ, where they finished undefeated and topped a group that included Portugal.

This is also the same team that won their group in the UEFA Nations League, producing a +4.77 xGDiff and creating 1.64 xG per 90 minutes.

As for the total, none of Cameroon’s matches in qualifying finished with at least five goals, while only four of Serbia’s 10 games in WCQ and the Nations League finished with the same total.

I liked the Eagles coming into the tournament as a surprise nation to make a deep run, and I think this is the spot where they show their class.

The Pick: Single Game Parlay – Serbia ML & Total Under 5 Goals (+100)
