Powerful clubs coming off mediocre efforts do battle Sunday when the Los Angeles Galaxy hosts the Seattle Sounders in Major League Soccer action.

Los Angeles enters the Western Conference showdown fresh off Wednesday's 2-0 road loss against Real Salt Lake. The poor showing in Utah made it three consecutive games without a win (0-2-1) for the Galaxy, which had been in stellar form following the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando.

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez has returned to the Los Angeles lineup and will have to do better than his performance against Real Salt Lake. The designated player and Mexican international didn't have a shot during his shift, which certainly did not help the Galaxy's usually potent offense.

On the other side, Seattle was handed a 1-0 setback against Portland after two impressive wins.

The Sounders are slight favorites on the money line in this match, but will sorely miss the contributions of standout Raul Ruidiaz, who is serving a one-game suspension following an incident in the Portland loss.

Looking at the data and numbers, Los Angeles has been the definition of average at best when it comes to the statistics. The Galaxy currently sits on 10.9 expected goals and a decent 10.4 expected goals against for a +0.5 xGDiff number, along with a +0.05 xGDiff/90 minutes.

Expected goals (also known as xG) is an advanced statistic that gives an indication of whether results are based on sustainable factors like a steady creation of scoring chances, or whether it is down to aspects such as luck or outstanding goalkeeping.

Unlike its opponent, Seattle features the league's top-ranked offense across all metrics. The Galaxy isn't close to the Sounders in any similar statistical categories, highlighted by a stunning 21.1 xGF on the season that is No. 1 overall among MLS franchises.

Seattle rounds out its numbers with 9.3 xGA for an insane +11.3 xGDiff and +1.32 xGDiff/90, giving the visiting side a distinct edge coming into the match.

When taking everything into consideration, I have landed on Los Angeles to grab all three points. The Galaxy have encountered a rough patch, but this is a good club and has the slight edge against its foe.

I really think the loss of Ruidiaz is going to hamstring Seattle's offense and make things difficult for the reigning MLS Cup champion in this spot.

I am also going to back Los Angeles to score at least two goals. The Galaxy have scored at least two goals in the last three meetings between the sides and I see that trend continuing under the Southern California sky.

The Bets: Los Angeles Draw – No (+106); Los Angeles Total Over 1.5 Goals (+100)
