Making Your First Bet

You want to put your entire deposit on your first wager. It's optimal, according to the math. That +300 to +500 in tight markets is usually a good sweet spot.

I signed up at BetMGM long ago, but I'll put my hypothetical $100 deposit on Morocco to beat France in regulation at +500.

• If Morocco wins, I pocket $500 and keep the original $100.
• If Morocco loses, I get back $100 in free bets.

OK, so what are free bets? We'll cover that next.

Using Free Bets

You hope to not have to use those free bets, because you cashed your initial wager at BetMGM. But most of the time, you will, especially if you're playing longshots.

Here's how free bets work. It's like BetMGM is spotting you the bet, and you keep the winnings if it wins. If you lose $100 on your first bet, you'll get five, $20 bets back.

• After Morocco loses, let's say I put $20 on the Timberwolves moneyline against the Clippers at +200 on Wednesday night. If the T'Wolves win, I make $40 but don't keep the original $20 free bet.
• If the T'Wolves lose, the $20 free bet goes away.

How Does Bonus Code ACTIONYARD Work?

There's another promo available in most BetMGM states — ACTIONCUP. It gets you $200 in free bets.

It's lower risk, because you really only have to deposit $10 and you can get $200 in free bets to use on anything. Use those free bets well, and you could have a few hundred bucks in cash.

Just bet $10 on the France-Morocco. That's it!

Free bets, if you didn't read the section above, are almost like bets on the house. You keep the winnings, but you don't keep the free bet itself.

BetMGM will return your $200 in four, $50 free bets. They can be used on any event or sport, with a few small restrictions.

So if you get $200 in free bets and put it all on Florida +300 against Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday:

• If Florida wins, you profit $600, but don't keep the $200 in free bets.
• If Florida loses, your free bets go away, and you're just left with your deposit.
