How Does the NHL Skills Competition Work?

This year's Skills Competition will feature a revamped format. The first round will have every all-star compete in four of the six following events in efforts to earn points:

  • Fastest Skater
  • Hardest Shot
  • Stick Handling
  • One Timers
  • Passing Challenge
  • Accuracy Shooting

Players will earn points based upon what place they finish in for these events. First place will yield five points, second gets four, third gets three and so forth.

The second round will take the top eight point-earners. Each player will select the goaltender they want to challenge to a shootout.

In the final round, the top six point-earners from the shootout will compete in an obstacle course where the points are doubled.

The winner of the entire competition gets a $1 million cash prize.
