Sept. 1 is the date sports bettors in The Sunflower State have been waiting for: legal online Kansas sports betting will be live.

Kansas is launching legal mobile wagering at noon CST next Thursday, which comes one week ahead of the start of the 2022 NFL season when the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams kick off under the lights for Thursday Night Football on Sept. 8.

Sept. 1 will technically be a "soft launch" date for Kansas sports betting with the official day being Sept. 8 when online operators will take bets on all sports. The Kansas Lottery on Friday approved six operators to take online bets on Sept. 1: FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, Barstool Sportsbook and PointsBet.

If you're a Kansas sports bettor, this means you'll have the chance to get your wagers in up to three days before the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Arizona Cardinals in their season opener. Additionally, due to the abundance of college sports teams in the state, Kansas is expected to be a premier destination for college football and basketball betting moving forward.

Nine online sportsbooks are fully licensed and ready to launch early next month through partnerships with Kansas' four casinos. Up to 12 total sportsbooks are allowed to enter the state, but those launch timelines and which books are approved will be announced in the future.

Bally Bet is not expected to be among the sportsbooks to launch right at noon on Sept. 1 when Kansas sports betting goes live, but it's expected the sportsbook will begin taking wagers once the full launch arrives on Sept. 8.
