Liverpool plays host to West Ham United in a pivotal Premier League clash on Saturday at Anfield.
As the race for the EPL title has heated up, thanks to Liverpool's remarkable form and Manchester City's lone blip against Tottenham, the Reds need to win nearly every game in order to put real pressure on the Cityzens.
That's the nature of the things at the top of the league at this point, but West Ham has goals of its own. The Hammers are currently in fifth place, with an outside look at a top-four position, and they'll certainly want to secure a Europa League position at worst.
So, can West Ham challenge Liverpool in this important road contest?
Powerful Liverpool in Vicious Form
There have been times over the past five years when this Liverpool team turns into an absolute nightmare to face. And yes, this is one of those times.
The Reds haven't suffered a loss in 13 fixtures, winning 11 of those games and picking up a League Cup title and FA Cup quarterfinal win along the way. Over that period, Liverpool has recorded 30 goals and conceded just five goals.
Manager Jürgen Klopp's men have made playing at Anfield a nearly impossible task as well, as they haven't lost a game there all season and lead the Premier League with 33 home points.
No one wants to play this team right now, and it's not hard to see them contending on all fronts. Liverpool has the second leg of its Champions League fixture with Inter Milan still to play, but it leads 2-0 returning to Anfield.
Simply put, West Ham has its hands full.
West Ham Hoping to Recover European Level
The Hammers seemed to be destined for their best finish in years after an early-season barrage, including a 3-2 win over Liverpool that lit them on fire.
Still, despite a drop-off that has left them in fifth in the league, the club is positioned well to contend for a European berth. It'll be tough, as Arsenal and Tottenham, sixth and seventh respectively, have at least two games in hand, but a string of results would go a long way for manager David Moyes' team.
West Ham suffered disappointing draws against Leicester City and Newcastle United, but recovered to beat Wolves last weekend.
The results were what the Hammers deserved, but they're sixth in the league away from home and might have belief stemming from the result they got at the London Stadium earlier this year.
Betting Analysis & Pick
As much as I want to give some credit to West Ham, fading this Liverpool team at Anfield seems unwise.
The Reds have amassed a 14-1 goal differential in their last four games at home to go with 14.7 expected goals and just 1.73 xGA during that span. Those are ridiculous numbers and representative of a team that is one of the most elite in the world.
While the Hammers have a solid -0.07 xG/game differential away from the London Stadium, it's going to be tough to hold up against a squad already on fire and has the added advantage of resting a number of players in its FA Cup game on Wednesday.
Though a Champions League game looms on Tuesday for Liverpool, it has the fitness to put full efforts into both games and there's no way I can stay off the Reds.
